Last month a Cooper's Hawk roosted on our patio fence for approximately six hours a day. We thought that odd but perhaps he was recuperating from an illness or an accident. Sadly he has not returned but eldest son was able to get some very nice shoots of him.

It looks like a Cooper's Hawk to me. They are sometimes an "advantage" of having bird feeders....

A couple of weeks ago I spotted the silhouette of a small raptor in a neighbor's tree. This morning I got a better look at him or her. It is either a Sharp-shinned Hawk or a really small Cooper's Hawk. Look close & you can spot some blood on his front. This morning's hunt was apparently successful.

Gorgeous bird, Rusty!

I'd say Cooper's Hawk also...the inside tail has a wider terminal band, the head & eyes have the Cooper's look to me along with the gray cap on top. The red eyes indicate a fully mature bird. If it was on the small size probably the male Coopers. The legs & feet are too covered for me to tell there.

Beautiful Raptor! Congrats!!
