I thought this collection might be of interest to others on the forum. My first camera, circa 1966, a Petri 7s, is among them. I have not actively collected, but just pick them up as an opportunity arises.

I don't see any great classics. But I am not an expert.

Very nice. I'm glad I never got into that. The exception was buying a few to replace the first cameras I had and to buy a few unusual ones to make into a lamp. Old cameras (not special) are available for surprisingly little money on eBay.

The Petri 7s was also the first camera I used around 1966 but my father bought in in 1963.

ALL very "low end" - a donation to some historically interested entity may be something to consider.......

Its responses like this that make people want to move on to other hobbies or at least abandon the UHH. The OP just said here is his collection and you might be interested...he didn't ask about value, donating, quality, or anything else. Would you say all this in person to someone you just met? Probably not.

To the OP...I am not a collector, but a few of your cameras brought forth a few memories of childhood and earlier years. Magic cubes? I remember those well and have a few shots illuminated by them. This kind of gear is what brought photography to the masses and sparked our hobby for what it is today...for better and worse.

Yes, under the assumption they were looking for an honest educated response .....

Fun collection. I wonder how many of us did NOT have an Argus “brick” as our first (or nearly first) 35mm? The things were indestructible - not super glass, but indestructible.
Thanks again.

That Petri 7s looks just like a Canonet that I bought when I was stationed in Korea in 1962; US Army. That Canonet took great photos and I took it with me every place I went when I was repairing Nike Hercules Missiles and launchers. I was right at 200 miles south of the 38th parallel about 10 miles from the Yellow Sea. Not much to do there, so I took a lot of pictures with Kodachrome 64, and on the USS Sultan on the way home. All the images were always sharp and had the best colors I ever saw. I still have the camera, but that auto focus thing around the lens stopped working a long time ago. I had boxes and boxes of (Geesssh, I forget what they are called) those little square negatives for my projector. I hate getting older and forgetting what things are called when they are way back in your life. Anyway, to make things worse, I lost every one of those slides one time when we moved! Bummer!! Was the Petri 7s made by Canon? By the way, that isn't my picture, but it is what I worked on in the Army after schooling at The Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama after basic training in Kentucky. We went to a practice firing once while in Korea. We had 3 kills out of 4. They go like a bat out of hell off of the launcher. That was all very exciting for a wet behind the ears 19 year old. Lot of memories! Thanks for making me remember a lot of that time in my life. I'm sure those camera's mean a lot to you, so take care of them. I know I will always take care of my Canonet. I might take it with me at my burial!

Thanks for your comments HC. You are correct; I did not mean to imply great value or rarity with my random collection. The older equipment is a slice of the history of the evolution of photography. That evolution is continuing at breakneck speed. Magicubes yes, and how about the #5 flashbulbs?

Well, it does sound rather rude.

Petri was an independent Japanese camera maker. They moved into SLR's later. I was just starting college when my father gifted me with the 7s upon his return from one of his AF Viet Nam tours. I think I still have the auxilliary lens kit for it. I guess I can credit it with igniting my passion for photography which has led me through some professional ventures making a living and back to my current hobbyist mode..Mamiya, Kowa, Nikon, Panasonic, and now my most heavily used kits - m43 Olympus.
