I just dug out one of my "point and shoot" cameras. I played with it and it Once again surprised me at just how good it is, (for its size and the relatively low cost).
It's a Samsung WB250F,} 14 MP, with 18x optical zoom. I pulled it out of the "junk drawer" coz I needed something to shoot with that I didn’t mind losing or breaking, (long story). Anyway, I'd actually forgotten just how good this little guy is! Obviously has full auto, but also has a surprising amount of manual control too, and a built-in flash. I was so happy to play with it again, that I think I will go and buy the newest version of it as my "pocketable", carry anywhere camera. Honestly the results are very good for the price, and the extra advantage for me, is that it's a Samsung, which is totally compatible with my phone, (the camera has wifi and nfc. Anyway, any of you hogs feel the need for a decent little inexpensive camera, check it out, it's worth considering! Have a great day,
Ray.

I hear you... old does not necessarily equate to poor quality. My 10 mp Sony with Zeiss lens still has best micro contrast of anything I own.

So many people are too quick to throw away "old stuff".
I suppose newer is simply better.....

Interesting replies guys, my post had a slightly different meaning though. Although I agree and you're right about older cameras and lower mp's still being pretty good, I guess my point was actually illustrated by you guys. Lol, you both have (albeit older), Sony cameras, which we've all come to expect to produce high quality results. My point really was that my camera is a Samsung, which I have never seen mentioned on UHH before, and yet IMHO is a very capable little camera that produces acceptable images and gives the user a surprising amount of manual control, and a decent optical zoom. I will definitely be replacing mine with the new version soon, as the price is very reasonable, and it's a camera that literally fits in the top pocket of a button down shirt. I realize it's not for everyone, and it doesn't scratch that itch that only a popular "named brand" will fix. But for anyone looking to get an inexpensive, capable small camera, and doesn't mind trying something different, this is just a suggestion that some might find interesting. Have a great day guys,
Ray.

Yup!
My Sony H-1 will auto focus down to 2cm when in Macro Mode.
I like that!

Seems like youll likely cherish that old Samsung rather than assign it to risky duty. Consider a used earlier model of Olympus "Tough" series or any similar sacrificial lamb. "Crude but effective".

As Selmsie says in a post today more than 10Mp is unnecessary - most of my 12Mp D90 shots are as good, if not better, than my 24Mp D5600 shots.

Regardless of the name on the camera if it has a Zeiss or Leica lens it's perfect.

HI John, although I haven't watched it yet, I saw that the "Northrups" have a new post regarding a 200MP (Sony, I think) that's soon to be available! Yup, 200mp's! I realize "the Devils in the details", but 200mp's, I can't imagine who would need (or even want) that much! Maybe if you're a billboard supplier, or perhaps produce ad's to be shown in movie theaters? I think it’s gone way beyond what any of us either need or want, and it's more about "bragging rights" (and cost), mainly by the manufacturers, and I'm sure for the people who buy them. Anyway, this turned into a long rant! (not intended), Lol. So have a great day,
Ray.

Billboard scale imagery is usually several MP resolution. Anything more makes no difference.

Sure there are, but I just like it for what it is, and I've never been one of those people who follows the crowd, chases the latest fashion or will only buy something because it has "the right" label on it! (I do own my Canon kit by the way, which I love, and obviously is superior in every way except size and weight), but I really like and enjoy that little Samsung, so I think I'll step away from the crowd and get myself another one of those!
Ray.
