Southern Royal Albatross. Wing span NINE feet. I am told that if you get too close, one could take your fingers off!

Wow!! That is a big bird. I thought my macaws had quite the wingspan but that Albatross has a greater span. Thanks for sharing!!

I have no doubts that this bird might be capable of taking a finger or two. Good shot of a "stare down".

There is a subspecies of Canadian Goose, the Greater Canadian Goose, that has a wing span of 12' and have successfully fought off eagles from attacking their offspring. I have been graced to actually see a pair and they look gigantic compared to any goose or eagle I have ever seen. These big birds with large wingspans (yours included), that one sometimes is given the chance to be near, shrinks one down as far as our own size.

I have no doubts that this bird might be capable o... (show quote)

There are 4 birds in the world with 12' wingspans...2 of them are Albatross and 2 of them are Pelicans.

The Giant Canada Goose is listed as having a wingspan of only 2 meters (6.6 feet).

Hopefully, that was a really long lens and you weren't within finger lopping distance. Great shot!

This luckless Alby got lost in a storm and crashed on to a beach, some hundreds of miles off course. He was found by fisheries officers and taken to a bird rescue centre

I could not turn down the opportunity to see this bird. He was being lept in a large wired cage, hoping he would recover. Normally to take off they wait for a gale to get uplift. Alas, the stress was too much and he later died.

Thanks everybody for your replies abd comments - much appreciated.
