...he was known for nuturing young talent, and even used band member's charts. Bill Chase was his lead trumpet in the late sixties, took off on his own with pretty much the whole trumpet section, and formed "Chase," a rock band of note ("Get it On" if you like upbeat stuff, that'll wake you up!)...Herman kept right on going, finding new talent.

I saw Bill Chase and his band while in high school at the college I later went to and Woody Herman while in college. Awesome bands. I also saw Stan Kenton a couple of times while in college and the Ellington band after Duke died and his son Mercer was fronting it.

Love the big band sound. Growing up my father loved listening to Benny Goodman and Woody Herman. It was always in the background on Sunday evening. Thanks for posting it, Mark.
