Nikonrumors had previously predicted this lens would officially be announced today, but are now saying it may be Wednesday. However, they now have more "rumored" information on the lens.

The biggest rumor comes from a source in China...the price...$6,000 which is far less than many have predicted.

It is expected to start shipping in May and the weight will be 2.3kg which is about half of the F mount 800mm and just a little more than the 500mm PF.

Performance has been called spectacular.

All of this remains to be seen.

.

I wouldn't call a 58% increase in weight a "little more". It is comparable in weight to a 200-500mm lens (I was very glad to shed that weight when I moved from the 200-500mm to the 500mm PF). Alternatively, one can use the 500mm PF lens with the 1.4 or 1.7TC with less total weight though I am sure the 800mm f/6.3 would be better. And as you mentioned, it is far lighter than the current 800mm f/5.6 lens. But will be glad to have the option and hear the final price.

Your numbers are correct. I made the mistake of believing what Nikonrumors said without checking the math...mea culpa.

Just posting info some may be interested in seeing. Got a problem with that?

The lens will not say "Sony" on it so I guess you won't be buying despite your user name.

Nice Anhinga by the way.

So, we're looking at $11k for the whole set-up which is cheaper than the 600 F4 lens?

The price will be about 6K give or take and be slightly heavier than the current 500 PF.

That’s great. Now where is the 200-600?

As a "skeptic", my guess is that Nikon is trying to get the higher margin products out the door first, like the Z9 and 400mm Z f/2.8 and 800mm PF. The question is, which will be next after the 800mm, the 400mm PF or the 200-600mm?

Yeah, the 200-600 was on the original roadmap. There have been lenses added to the roadmap that are a look ready released. I’m assuming the 400 might be an f/5.6 which I might be interested in if the price is right. I wonder if the 600 prime will be f/5.6 or 6.3. I’m assuming the 85 will be f/1.4 but my 1.8 is all I need. The 800 sounds great, an 800 I could shoot handheld? but I can’t really drop $6k on it. It’s that 200-600 I really want to see. I’ll be able to drop the 200-500 and the FTZ adapter.

Yes, should be out toward the end of this year. At least I hope. Also hope it has a quarter turn to go from 200-600 like on my Sony.

I could be wrong, but the guess of the "experts" based on its silhouette was that the 400mm will be an f/4. I doubt it would be cheaper than the 200-600mm, but presumably lighter. Once the 200-600mm at presumably a lower price is released, the "need" for all these higher priced lens is rapidly diminished. And the 600mm prime is (at least according to some), f/4. And for sure $$$! May have built in TC.
I could try to dig up where I read these guesses but for sure they are still guesses.
