i had two positive experiences recently. i injured my 24-70mm lens and smashed my CP that was attached. i was careless. after i wiped away my tears, i moved forward.

sent the lens to nikon for repairs. it was pricey ($700), but they repaired it in speedy fashion--took less than 10 days. also included a thorough cleaning and focus check. works like new.

bought a CP from breakthough. they shipped it same day. got it in less than a week, complete w/a letter from the company's CEO.

in days of less than stellar customer service (like product back order, being put on hold on the phone for 20 min. etc), i thought it best to pass on these experiences.

agreed. it's easier to gripe than to compliment someone i guess.

I have no experience with Nikon, but I will certainly echo your praise of Breakthrough service, as well as their products: US made, knurled edges for easier on/off/turning, color-coded rim to make it easy to distinguish a polarizer from, say, a ND of the same size, and 25-year warranty activated by easy on-line registration. I have six of their polarizers and NDs in various sizes; they're easily the quality equivalent of my B&W filters.

I also had a Nikon 24-70 f2.8G jump off the edge of a large bolder, with the help of a clumsy me, and bounce down many other rocks while I was touring northern NY. It fell about 80-90 feet and hit many times before stopping in a crack between 2 rocks. Yes, it was a mess.

As soon as I returned home in Louisiana, I called Nikon and they told me I had to send it in to see if it could be repaired, and away it went. After a few days I got a call from Nikon and the man said it would cost $600 to repair it. I okayed the repairs and received it back in less than a week.

I am convinced that they didn't repair my busted-up lens, they replaced it! What I got back had a new serial number and not a single mark on it or in it. In any event, I was extremely happy, and that lens is still taking beautiful images today at well less than half the cost of a new one.

I have been saying for a long time that businesses should remember that while low prices may bring the customer in it is good service that brings them back in. Here is an example of what I mean. A few days ago I ordered a Conklin 20 year commemorative edition Innova model fountain pen from Pensavings. The pen was packaged in a nice container with a free bottle of ink and a hippocratic lapel pen. It was titled the "Courage Edition" to honor health care workers and First Responders. The original price was $125.00 but it was on sale for $50.00 with free shipping and with putting the word "save" in the coupon line, I saved another $5.00 and got the pen for $45.00
When the pen arrived, the outside of the box looked fine, but when I opened the box, I saw where the ink bottle had leaked, ruining the label on the bottle, paperwork, and the pen case. I took a picture of the problem and sent an email to Chris, the owner of Pensavings. Within an hour or so, I had received an reply from Chris who said that they would ship me a new package to replace the one that was damaged. I now have a tracking number and my pen is on the way. While the low price is what initially brought me in, it is the stellar service that brought me back in and to cause me to recommend Pensavings without reservation. When the company gives shoddy service, the word about that gets right out. We all need to get the word out when a business provides exemplary service.

That's cool. It is most likely a refurbished lens, but refurbished is far, far better than a repaired one that bounced down 90 feet of rocks.
