Blue Jays are viciously protective animals!!! I recall a young boy, perhaps 6, got too close to the nest and the Blue Jay chased him for quite a distance dive-bombing and pecking his head. WolfMark, your photo sharply shows a defiant stance of the head... looking eye to eye with the camera.
