This is the SOOC shot. I can't upload the raw file, so all you get is the unprocessed jpeg. I took this shot in Chicago and thought it was a total mess. But after a lot of editing, it has become one of my favorite photos. It sure did not start out that way!

Just for fun, consider downloading the shot and editing as you see fit. In a few days I will upload my final version.

This is more of a processing challenge, but postings are kind of sparse on this section!

Hip!

Oh! BTW, a wonderful street photography scene! I also saved your image as a tiff. Not sure about your NEF file as I used a variety of programs: Picture Publisher 10 (a favorite 12-year old 32-bit program that originally came out for Windows at the same time as PS 2.5 and the company was bought by Corel) for squaring off the image, rotating image and cloning the wall and upper lip; PSE 2022 for brightening small areas using selections (slightly darkened background and slightly lightened water falling off on right) and used the "liquify" tool to gently move some background and the arm (?) along the left and other edges; Nikon Capture NX2 with "Control Points" for selective lightening of kids except for the girl in the right corner. And various other things I don't remember :-( .

I used the sliders and didn't write down the amounts, just moved them by eye!

Speak to you soon. Be well! Ed

Thanks, Ed!

For the rest of the Hogs on this site, Ed and I became acquainted over this site and I did a little presentation with Ed at his camera club. I guess that is the spirit of this section…to make friends and uplift then art and hobby of photography and make friends along the way!

My interpretation of the image. I cloned out the extra people and left only the two close to the lips. I thought this made the image more symetrical. I also darkened down the two figures. I did a square crop to get rid of the things I thought were distracting. Thanks for letting me play along.

I like the girl and if it were not so time-consuming would have put her in the left side area. This is a quick and imperfect edit. I used clone for the upper part of the lip and for the border to make them both with a pink vertical. Used prospective tool to help a bit. The subject is a great one... If possible you should go back and sit for a day taking many shots... Thank you elee950021 for sharing the fun. The photo has great color, reflection, and action.

The look and lighting are crying out for a contrast boost. The trouble is, if you want to bring details out of the darker areas, lifting the shadows globally is going to kill the contrast. So the answer is selections (the girl and boys). That way the global contrast can be increased (along with saturation, sharpening etc) while at the same time the people in the shot become more visible.

This is slightly ramped up beyond a natural look, but the scene suits it so well I decided to go with it.

I too think this is a great shot. Also it tells a story (kid having fun). I like what RG did and keep the girl and get rid of the other stuff. There are really some great edit ideas.
I like looking for images within images.

Nice work all! This image is one that's open to many interpretations. I tried to keep things similar in terms of mood as shot but Hip's version is lightened to appear more "normal," the scene with better lighting, earlier in the day!

Be well! Ed

You will see in my upload that I took out the little girl. So now I may go back to see how I can include her...she is a great aspect of this shot.

Here is my version...I was starting from raw, so had a bit of an advantage on latitude. I could not (would not) wade out into the water so I had some perspective issues...lines a bit off parallel. I had to remain on the sidelines. So I had to fix that. I wanted the top led bricks to be horizontal so I did a bit of perspective correction. I took out the little white lines going up and down the perimeter of the shot...not sure what those were. I obviously upped the sat on the red. And put a black frame around it. With the new masking capabilities of LR, I may do some more on this.
