Have you heard Carla Bley

Mark, I have never heard of her before the other night. I can't stop listening to the song she was playing when I first heard her. Listening to the melody and her on the piano is just like holding my Wife and dancing in a room filled with candle light. Have you heard of her before?

I didn't dance with her enough when she was still here.

Hi,
Very moving story!! I have and have quite a few of her recordings in my music collection. She's different and a gifted pianist.

Thanks for thinking of me, Walter.

I've been aware of her for years (decades) but for some reason I have never been a fan. Not sure why, perhaps projected image. I like many of the people she has worked with over the years. But to each ones own, and glad you found someone who inspires you.

Thank you for the reply's Mark and lamiaceae. The way she played that song captured me immediately and my deceased wife was in my thoughts right away. It will be seven years this coming May 2nd, and I still wear her ring, along with another ring that I gave her expressing my love for her, that fits my little finger next to my wedding ring. Lately, I have been having dreams and thoughts of her when sleeping or just napping, and waking up half awake and wondering where she is now , because we were not finished talking, and then I remember that she isn't here anymore. Geesssh, maybe that is wrong, because in a certain way she is still here. Thanks for listening to my rattling on; I just miss her so much. Mark, I had to think of you first because you are our music man, and you bring back a lot of memories with music we have forgotten about.

Now I guess I will have to give Carla Bley another listen. Yes, of course you think of your late wife when you hear a song that reminds you of her. Don't feel strange or bad about still wearing your wedding ring. That is not that unusual. Thankfully my wife and I are both still alive and together after 38 years. Mine does not fit any longer due to Gouty Arthritis. But we do sort of have a song that reminds us how we met some 8 years before we got married. That was "Bus Stop" by the Hollies. For my funeral I think I want "Dust" by Fleetwood Mac (1971). When my mother died in 2009 she had requested "Sing, Sing, Sing" by the Benny Goodman big band. I like swing music as well as current rock and jazz, and much more. Peace to you.

You are blessed to have such a happy marriage.
Your expression of your feelings is elegant and
warming to the heart.

If my wife should predecease me, I am sure I
would have similar feelings.

Thanks for the reply Advark. Good for you and your wife. I hope you have many more years together. When out walking in the evening, don't forget to hold her hand. One of the first things I noticed after Carol was called Home when I would be at Her grave was so many people were out for their evening walk, and so many were never holding hands. It always reminded me that some day it will hit one of the couple so hard after it is too late to hold the others hand. It is a terrible thing to miss. Thanks again for the reply. God bless you both.

Thank you for the kind words, lamiaceae. So many things remind me of her; horses, she liked country music, our dogs and cats, and of course all the pictures of her here in the computer room that were my favorites, and Charleston Falls where we used to walk. We were together 37 and a half years before her breast cancer came back. It had matastisiced (darn, I know that's spelled wrong) into her bones (pelvis, spine, and then into the brain) she was so brave, but it was just too much. We were talked into a blind date , which we both refused to go on, but we finally gave in and went. I used to watch her all the time at the bowling alley on bowling night. We were both at the same table for a beer and cheeseburger on night after bowling. My best friend and his girl friend both knew her but I had never talked to her before. To be honest I didn't think that much of her after that get together, and she might have felt the same way. She did look good though on her approach with her bowling ball. We never spent a day apart after that blind date. We were married 4 months after that. Getting myself teared up here. Your Mother and mine would have been great friends. My Mom loved Benny Goodman and Sing, Sing, Sing, and all his other music. I remember once when I was little Mom took me downtown to one of the RKO Theaters to see Benny Goodman in concert. I remember after the concert was over Mom said just sit still and be quiet so that the ushers don't notice us. We stayed in our seats and watched the second concert. I grew up with Swing music; it was always playing in our house. I liked Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, Glen Miller, . . . . all those guys back then. When I hear any Glen Miller now It always reminds me of our boys flying over Germany in WWII in their B-17s. Memories. Looks like we have a lot in common. I still like Swing music, a bunch of the old Pop hits through the early days of Carols and my marriage, some of the older Country music (back in the days of Brooks & Dunn) , and a lot more artists, but I guess my favorite now is Eric Clapton, "Red", and I wish I had never got rid of my records of Frank Sinatra with Count Basie's Band. I even liked Errol Garner! Well, I've bent your ears long enough. Here is another Carla Bley number that you might like. I have found quiet a few of her numbers on youtube. I like this number, but I can't stop listening to "lawns", really like that one sitting her listening to that along with Carol's picture. Bless you and your Wife. Wishing you many more happy years, and when you go for a walk with her, don't forget to hold her hand. I really miss that with Carol, don't you do that because it hurts when they are gone. Thanks again for the reply. Tell your Wife I said Hi.

I rattle on a lot, sorry. When this number starts just cancel the 2 adds at the beginning, then there aren't anymore. Let me know how you like this number. I wish her piano had been a little louder.

Mark, I have been meaning to mention this for awhile. I have a neighbor who could be your twin brother. Your picture looks exactly like him, beard and all! Same smile and everything.
