With 10/11 can one still set a browser as the "preferred browser"?

Did window remove Chrome or simply set Edge at the preferred.

Edge was set as the default with out me knowing it. When going through the default setting there is not an option for Chrome. When going to uninstall, the Edge uninstall option is grayed out.

If I open Chrome on my win 7 box and go to settings (three dots top right) one of the options is to make Chrome the default browser.

That would be my LAST RESORT before blowing up the computer.

I spend time looking for fixes as opposed to completely shotgunning something and hope it works.

You can’t uninstall Edge, but as longshadow said, just open Chrome and set it as your default browser - you’ll never know Edge is there.

Thanks. Uninstalling Edge was just a thought, but the instructions on how to make Chrome a default browser do not work for me for some reason.

How are you starting your browser? You can just place a shortcut to Chrome on your desktop or menu bar and select it when you want a browser open.

Or If you can’t successfully make the change within your Chrome browser, try this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/change-your-default-browser-in-windows-10-020c58c6-7d77-797a-b74e-8f07946c5db6

Finally, if all else fails, uninstall Chrome and reinstall. It will ask you in the install process if you want to make it your default browser.

I have Edge, Chrome, Opera, & Fire Fox on my win 11 and win 10 computers.
Everyone works just fine.
As a long time Firefox, Opera, Chrome user I find Edge works just fine.
It is now my default web browser.
