SX2002
Loc: Adelaide, South Australia
This island is south of the City of Melbourne in Australia, nothing south of it but Tasmania We quite often visit Melbourne for a week's holiday. We went on a day bus tour down to Phillip Island to see the attractions there and especially the penguins as they come ashore after a day's fishing and go back to their nests. My biggest gripe was that when they saw my camera, they said I couldn't take pics as the flash would scare the penguins. I told them my camera (D500) doesn't have a flash but they still said no...Over officious at the max...
Hundreds of other tourists were taking pics by the thousands using their phones...some even using flash and none of the staff said a word...I said a lot under my breath.
These shots were all taken from the south coast of the Island except for the second last one which was taken from the penguin sanctuary on the west coast.
It was a great day out, we also visited the Koala Sanctuary and the Wildlife Park.
This holiday was in May, 2019.
That last pic gave us a good laugh, maybe they could have put the sign somewhere else...

a beautiful place..........perhaps 65 years since i was there. Thanks for the memories.
Really nice set of pictures. I'm sorry you were denied photographing when others were not. I've had that happen simply because my camera was large. Their excuse seemed a bit lame, but then, I'm not them.
Nice photos. Beautiful swells on the waves. And yes $15 is a little steep considering the accommodations!
Great Surf and Beach images.
Not only that, but a camera flash does not disturb a penguin in the least. The "They" you speak of were no doubt ignorant, both of photography AND penguins. "They" were probably just bored, self-important people who felt that they had to exert power to feel some self-worth. In such situations, I've gone ahead and snuck a few photos anyhow; no damage done.
A great set, Ron. It sure amazes me how phone photography is treated so differently than "real" camera photography. Go figure.
Wonderful set, Ron, the photos and narrative are top quality! Hope you are feeling better.
