I have never tried to sell any camera equipment online before and am wondering ---if you have ever sold something on here - how did you accept payment? What has been your experience on the best forms of payment, what would you recommend (cashiers check, paypal...etc).

I bought a camera from a seller on the Hog. I sent a money order and once he got it he shipped the camera. I felt that was safer than a check. No issues.

Cindy, I have sold cameras and accessories here. I will accept Paypal. I will also take personal checks or money orders and will ship when either of those clear with my bank. You can avoid Paypal fees by using the friends' option.
The best thing to do is to work out what is best for each individual transaction.

will

A Nantucket sleighride is the dragging of a whaleboat by a harpooned whale while whaling. It is an archaic term from the early days of industrial whaling, when the animals were harpooned from small open boats. Once harpooned, the whale, in pain from its wound, attempts to flee, but the rope attached to the harpoon drags the whalers' boat along with it. The term refers to Nantucket, Massachusetts, the center of the American whaling industry; as well as the speed associated with riding in a horse-drawn sleigh. The term wasn't used by whalemen themselves, but was probably invented by a late 19th-century journalist.[1]

Thanks Will...I was hoping someone said to have the check or money order clear first before shipping....that's kinda what I was concerned with.

A couple of months ago I sold a Nikon F100 with a 28-70mm zoom and a few accessories. I specified free shipping if the buyer paid with the PayPal friends and family option which meant no PayPal fees deducted. The buyer complied, but I wish I had checked the shipping costs first.

Priority Mail cost me $28. Otherwise everything went smoothly.

I have many transactions on UHH and have never had a problem. Just make sure the check or MO clears before shipping. With Paypal, both parties need to have a clear understanding about whether payment will include fees or not and if payment is made using the friends and family option then fees are not relevant. If you use Paypal never ever ship until the funds are showing in your Paypal account! I prefer check or MO to avoid the 3% Paypal seller fee. Never had an issue with a UHH member.

What camera are you selling?

I guess admin moved my topic from the general chit chat section to the member buy/sell section even though I don't want to list anything for sell yet....oh well. I just wanted some general info. I might be listing a Tamron 150-600 F/5.6 A011 lens but will try to sell it local first.

Thanks for the info d3200 and flip1948!

The women ask a question about selling cameras on UHH. What does this have to do with selling camera?

For online selling, you need to consider how you'll ship the equipment. I prefer the USPS prepaid 2-day priority mail boxes. Alas, I fear your Tamron won't fit into any of these box-size options from the USPS. Therefore, your cost-to-ship will likely be higher, either cutting into your net proceeds from the sale, or raising your selling price. Ideally, you'll set your selling price inclusive of the shipping. One price is easier for everyone to understanding in the pricing.

I have sent a check and asked the seller to wait to ship until the check clears the bank. That has always worked well.
