Now you are aware of it, set your camera to show the level.

Recently I have been going through some of my photos…one thing I have noticed is a large percentage of my photos tilt to the right. That is slant down from left to right. Not a lot, just enough to be annoying.

Does anyone else have this problem. Is there a reason this happens so often. When I am looking thru the viewfinder I don’t notice the tilt.

What are your thoughts on this

Chuck

I have a grid display in my viewfinder to help prevent this... also sometimes use an electronic level feature in most of my cameras. Those help, but I still end up with a bit of tilt here and there... and correct it in post processing. It's one of my first steps, in fact.

Really bugs me to see obviously tilted images! Especially lakes and oceans. Sometimes it's an optical illusion. Or lens distortion ("keystoning").

Don't just look at horizontal lines. Also pay attention to the verticals!

P.S. Since all your images tilt right, you must be a conservative and vote Republican!

Almost every picture I take is like that. Same way tilt down left to right. If I concentrate when I’m shooting I can keep it straight but most times I don’t. Like others have mentioned, easy to correct in PP.

Lightroom only allows a certain amount of tilt correction--about 30°, I think. Once in a while I take one with a really big tilt (not sure why, snap shot, maybe?) and I can't fix it with LR. Only solution is to fix the limit, Export it with a different name, re-Import it and fix the new one.

I think the tilt is something ingrained in all of us. When my camera's virtual horizon says the camera is level all my senses say it is not. Without using the virtual horizon many of my shots have a perceptible tilt.

I just tried this on LR (mobile) to be sure it worked. LR provides for rotation of the image in 90 degree increments, for a full 360 degrees. It also allows up to 45 degrees of “tilt” so using those two things, you can always correct any degree of tilt.

Another thing that might work (I didint’ try it) is apply the max correction more than once. Apply it and then exit the crop tool then re-open the crop tool and apply it again as needed.

I admit I've not tried combining 90° rotation with up to 45° tilt--never occurred to me. I'm not sure about reapplication after a crop.

I just tried the 45 close and re-open the crop tool and it won’t allow more than 45 degrees (LR Mobile). However the 90 +/- 45 definitely works.

I have that same "tilt-to-the-right" problem fairly often when panning race cars. When not panning, my shots are almost always level. I didn't have the tilting problem when I was younger (when panning), so I've been thinking it might be related to my slowed reflexes or motor (muscle) control. I'm glad to see I'm not alone with this problem.

I don't have that problem at all; (I usually tilt to the left!)

Mine are, too. Maybe an over-correction to the pressure to press the shutter?

That wouldn’t work. You would have to export the edited photo and then import the exported photo and do it again. I’m thinking if you’re more than 30° off you have more serious issues to contend with.
