These were taken at the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia S.C.
I know how many people feel about Zoo's, but if it weren't for Zoo's like this, I know I would never have the opportunity to few these types of animals myself, and or be able to take my Granddaughter to see these magnificent creatures in person.

Nice shots. They make me wish I too had opposable big toes. It would make it easier to pick things up off the floor.

I am sure they are well fed and tended to medically. Most zoo zoo animals outlive their wild cousins by many years. And in most of today’s zoos they likely live a happier life than in the wild.

All so true. Their natural lands are are being used up. You have chosen camera angles that give the pictures a sense of their freedoms within their enclosure. Really good shooting.

Tom, loved your shots. Having had the wonderful opportunity to go on a photo safari, and seeing many marvelous animals in the wild, I understand the critics of zoos. However, I also know that without zoos the vast majority of people would never experience seeing these creatures in person. Thanks for your shots and your comments.

For those of you who think a long life in a cage would be preferable to a shorter possibly violent/dangerous life in the wild...tell me YOU personally would prefer it!! I wouldn't!
Yes, good zoos serve a valuable purpose. Saving endangered species from extinction is a good example. But put yourself in a gorilla's skin and tell me you would love to live in a zoo for, oh, I don't know...fifty years!
Really nice photos BTW Tom!

Great set of images!!!
I understand how some people feel about Zoos, But If not for good zoos many of this animals will be extinct by the turn of the century, This will be caused by the human race!!
