What other equipment do you have? If you are a Nikon user, the Z9 is your choice. If you already have Sony gear, go with the A1.
LOL.....
a F100....D7200...D750...D500...D850.......and lots of Nikon Lenses.......I really hate to switch to Sony BUT I
am tired of waiting....and I am not getting any younger.....I am 74!!!
I even sent a letter to Nikon saying that I had been a customer since 1972.....they don't even care!

My initial impression is that you are pretty well-equipped already and have very few handicaps around having what would be required to respond to any photographic situation. I don’t have a Z9, but it looks like shooting it will be awfully close to shooting your D500 and D850. A Sony will definitely not be. My vote would be to wait for the Z9.

A ha! If you buy the A1 then I was right that Nikon is selling something they couldn't make.
Why do you feel you need to purchase either?

I'm 72 and I say screw the size and weight. Consider the new OM-1 with the 12-100 f4 Pro IS. Add a good polarizer and extra battery and travel the world with just that. 24-200 angle of view in 35mm terms, ~2.5 pounds, and ~$3700 for everything Including filter and battery. No tripod needed and shoot in whatever the weather with no extra gear. ISO is the same as most full frames. Takes handheld 80mp RAW photos for landscapes. Add on lenses as you feel you need. Try renting one for two weeks and see what I am telling you. Also, one of the future OM cameras will be 32mp.
When I shot 35mm, I had a Nikon, can't remember the flavor. Got it thru the PX while serving in Korea. When I switched to digital in the dim post Korean past, for some now unknown reason, I went with Canon. Over the years, Canon has worked fine for me. I haven't bought a body in years. Once in a while, I get a new lens. All a real photographer needs in a normal lens on a good body. Zoom with your feet, so what if you miss one shot in a thousand. Harry

You have time, I did not start serious photography until I was 78.
GOOD GRIEF! If the gear you already have isn't enough to capture great images to your liking then maybe spend more time learning how to take full advantage of those lenses.
I guess I would end with the z9 because of the economic build body. I didn’t had ether one in my hand but the Sony a7 III didn’t fit comfortable in my hands and how to reach the certain button and wheels wasn’t for me......

Do you currently own any Sony e lenses or Nikon Z lenses?
What do you like to shoot most often, landscapes, people, wildlife?
What is your budget for camera and lenses?
Do you have any experience with either brand?
