The Canon film cameras had the most classic look, F-1, A-1, EF.

The Canon F1 has a 2 finger shutter speed dial which has the classic look. The A-1 and EF have the 1 finger dial which is not so classic.

It looks like we are getting contentious. Where is that old fellow from Wisconsin now that we need him?

🤣😂🤣
Which of his cameras that are destined to change the face of photography would he choose? The weird swivel lens Sony or the Sigma with the perfect Faveon sensor?

Well the words you used sure seemed to imply that all mirrorless look alike and DSLR’s don’t. I see more variety in mirrorless than DSLR’s.

It's just that i've been shooting DSLR's long before mirrorless, when mirrorless came out, they certainly did all look alike, it's easy to tell a Canon DSLR from a distance, they all had that dent on the top to put your forefinger on the shutter button.

If there was a category for the most inane topics on this site, this recent post would surely qualify!

Well for sure, but it's solidly aligned with UHH traditions.

I have four canon slrs and have no idea what dent youre referring to. The idea that its visually distinctive at distance is kinda weird.

I tend to agree that canon and nikon slrs look alike at a glance or at a distance, IOW no very distinctive visual separation of the brands. It's really quite obvious why nikon needs that red accent mark.

I'm guessing the Sigma, but whichever one it is, he'd have some choice words for anyone who disagreed. I'm actually wondering about him. I hope he didn't suffer an attack of apolexy up there in Brandon, Wi.

And now Nikons look like rebranded Sonys.
All Nikon needs to do is put a red ring around the lens mount and one would not be able to tell the difference unless the Sony had a copy cat white lens on it trying to look like a Canon.
Oh well such confusion.

Couldn't find any information on a Sony with a swivel lens. To which Sony are you referring? I don't know anything about sensor technology, but from the information releases Sigma's Foveon X3 sensor project sounds interesting.

Welcome to page eleven and troll turf,
where all the umps and refs are trolls.

As per UHH sacred tradition, troll turf begins around page three. Maybe you were snoozing back there ?

OTOH, this is an actual trolling thread, and so its kinda odd for you to grump about trolls this late, in middle of the sixteenth inning ....

Relax and try to enjoy the show. Youll surely get your moneys worth !!!

I believe it was the DSC-F828. It also had some interesting sensor technology that had some of the same problems as the Foveon sensor, chief of which was readout speed. He called the Foveon “the perfect sensor”, it’s not. His conjecture was that because it didn’t use Bayer arrays it would have better color accuracy and that’s just not true. It was just a different method of determining color. The accuracy of either method is really dependent on the processing of the data.

You will need to look up Old School Wi who came on the scene a few months ago and was shall we say a bit vociferous in defending his position when challenged. The Sony that he extolled was a low megapixel affair of decades ago. I forgot the model, but he thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. As far as the Sigma technology, instead of saying that it was a camera he found interesting and enjoyed using, he expounded on its virtues of being superior to the cameras being used today. My original comment was about this thread becoming contentious and that we needed to hear from the guy Wisconsin was meant to be a mildly humorous aside. Superfly's response was merely a comment about the cameras old school advocated and defended with a lively vocabulary. I actually think one of the Sigma Foveon cameras would be interesting to try out, but couldn't see using it for a daily carry.
As far as the topic at hand, there are those who think that the camera they are carrying contributes to the "cut of their jib" for the rest of us that just doesn't matter.

Yes. There's that and a related syndrome, the Boy Racer look. Some vehicles sorta blend them both. At any rate, when i was a kid, toys were often modeled after adult things. Today, we have (very expensive) adult things modeled after kids toys.

Driving a Boy Racer or Transformer car seems like a resistance to growing up. Thaz something I can sympathize with !
