I know most won't agree, but to me, the heavy clouds sort of hide the bird. If the bird is the focal point, then leaving it against a plain sky would be better IMHO.

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment. I posted the same bird in a different pose in color against a blue sky and it came out "Oh look, another Cooper's Hawk". In this one I tried to let the viewer decide if there even was a subject.

To me, the hawk looks like it does not belong in the picture. This is not a picture that I would hang on a wall.

I think it is too dramatic but ONLY because the background overshadows the bird. I would crop down so the bird is the main subject. Of course that is the question. Is the bird the main viewpoint or the clouds?

No one seems to have noticed that the light on the subjects is inconsistent with your chosen sky. The whole god rays set up would result in backlighting the bird and foreground trees. Nice try but unbelievable.

Thought I was pretty careful with the lighting but OK if you say so

Not too dramatic. If I might suggest flip the sky so the sun rays are coming down directly on the bird.

The wont fix the directional mismatch of the sun rays and the lighting in the bird.

You are correct, and carelessness about the lighting is to blame. The bird is lit by some *other sun* than the one beaming from behind the clouds. Typical UHH.
