These pretty birds showed up this morning near a tee on the golf course behind our house. I quickly put my 80 - 400 mm on my D7100 and headed out the back door. I'm guessing I was about thirty yards from their location. At first I was hand holding and bracing myself on the corner of our building. I set the ISO around 400 to start, but since the sky was a little hazy, I thought the shutter speed was a little too slow for a sharp photo, so I bumped it up to a 1000. I did get some sharp photos, but they are very noisy. I also have a red line around a few of the birds, but not all of them. Your comments on this shot are appreciated. I did finally go get my tripod for a few shots before something spooked them. When they took flight, I barely had time to get camera turned and focused (still on the tripod) before were out of my line of sight. Got one usable shot.
Oops. It looks like I put one shot on here twice. sorry.
Nice shots of the IBIS. The bright red heads really stand out from the white bird.
I don't think see any objectionable noise. And the jump jet take off is very nice! I like the set! Downloads are a bit noisy!
Nice job not blowing the hightlights.
No need to apologize. The eye of the front Ibis drew my attention - sharp. Nice.

Good work! Are these heavily cropped?

Slightly. I was only about 30 yards from them shooting at 400 mm, So it didn't take much. I just cropped out distracting elements in the photo.
For what it's worth, one of our neighbors is really into birds and feeds a lot of them often. When she saw the shots her first remark was about their red heads. She said they turn red during their breeding season. I guess that's like telling the males that they are "ready" to mate.
