i was stationed at mcguire afb in 1956 when we were visited by russian jet...the first to land here...we were allowed to tour and fotograph the aircraft....was interesting...this is one shot of mine....using,if i remember,a minolta autocord..,..since there is no aircraft forum,i stuck this here....
Beautiful aircraft. Thanks for sharing historical photograph. I note that most people do not know that Russia has a long aviation history.

I flew Aeroflot from Stockholm to Moscow many years ago. We flew on one of their planes. It was so poorly designed that if the passengers in the back of the plane were seated first, the plane would tip back on its tail. The passengers seated in the front therefore had to embark first, then the passengers in the back could get on. Disembarkation was the reverse - back passengers first, then front passengers.
It was also no-class seating - all the seats were equal. Well, some were more equal than others. There were two Russian generals on the flight. They were seated in the front and got some amenities that the rest of us did not get, like vodka and caviar.

thanks for the background...i liked the tail dropping thing.......
That wouldn't get a great reception today. The engine mount reminds me of the DeHaviland Comet. I guess the Russians were stealing western designs back then, too. Maybe they made changes to avoid the metal fatigue that plagued the Comet.

IIRC, the metal fatigue on the Comet was due to the use of square shaped holes in the cabin. The stresses around a "corner" rise dramatically when a square shape is used, and falls dramatically when the corner is highly rounded.

This Tupolev TU-104 was an unusual aircraft, a USSR success! It was considered by many to be their first such plane. I remember seeing two Russian built A/C at the Dayton International Trade and Airshow is 1988 where the Russians had sent a transport and a fighter plane as their representation. While most a/c designers rely on smooth curves and few hard angles the Russians differed. Their a/c looked as though they had been constructed by a blacksmith! NO curves, just hard lines with many harsh angles. And each had GIGANTIC rivets everywhere! I took one look at each from the outside and thought the interiors would be just as badly designed and lost interest. In just two more years these planes were obsolete, the USSR was more.

My wife and i flew on the same type of plane from Tbilisi in Georgia to Kiev to Amsterdam as part of a Friendship Force visit in 1991- the loading was as you described, front first then rear. As (then) smokers we opted for the rear of the plane, and once on board found out that was the non-smoking section. The only lavatory was plugged up and stank so badly others around us suggested we light up, as it would improve the atmosphere!

Nice history shot Sgt Hop! :
Re me quoting stanikon, I recently flew on an airbus A-320 and after landing the captain wouldn’t let any one deplane till after the baggage was unloaded. Seems there was a baggage door malfuncion and all baggage was loaded aft. He said with that load if front passengers left first the plane would tip back on it’s tail. I didn’t know what the problem really was but assumed he was joking. Apparently not.
