I have a badge for Tuesday practice day at the Masters golf tournament in a couple days. Wondering if any of you have any experience at Augusta. They allow cameras on practice days. Can I bring in two cameras? One zoom, and one more wide angle. Right now I could take a Sony a9 with 200-600 and a Canon R6 with 24-105. I could rent a Canon 100-400 and go with one body and two lenses. I could also pull out my 5D Mark iv body for the 24-105 for more megapixels for landscape shots.
Any advice is welcome. Kind of a bucket list item for me.

I think I would be thinking about buying/renting a 24-240mm lens - either the Sony or the Canon. ONE lens/camera will allow you to move quickly and concentrate on the action and not physically wear you out.

I have been there for a Wednesday practice round. You will have a great time. First , start a the 18th green and walk it backwards or you'll just be following the same group. Secondly, be care the amount of gear you take, you can not believe how hilly the course really is. TV does not do it justice. After walking that course you will view another golf course the same way. Have a great time, it was one of my most memorable events!

You are in for a treat. It is an absolutely gorgeous course. I was fortunate enough to get tickets one time about 15 years ago. The only equipment I had at the time was a Canon Rebel XTI with a 17-85 lens. I got some nice shots but sure wished a had a longer lens. ENJOY!!

I really can't see the need for the 200-600mm lens as you can follow groups. I think the R6 with the 24-105mm would be sufficient.

In any event, use silent shutter. Even though cameras are allowed if you were to bring the 5D you had better not have that mirror slapping during a player's swing, but you probably know that.

This advice is perfect. The practice rounds are a blast. Make sure you go to the #16 during practice. The crowd will chant "Skip it, skip it" and the golfers will try and skip the ball across the water and land on the green, It very entertaining. Have fun. It's a magnificent course.

Unless you have a press pass you should check with Augusta to find out what type of equipment you can bring. Besides, the course is longer and has more hills than it appears on TV and it can be hot and humid..keep that in mind. The course is beautiful so you may want to factor that into your choice if you’re interested in capturing more than the golfers. I like to walk the course rather than plant myself in one spot to add variety to my shots.

You have the right idea, one camera, and two lenses, the R5 is the choice and the 24-105 is a great choice if you are able to rent another lens I would get the best lens for that mirrorless camera with the longest reach. No need to add an adaptor to your weight. When I went to the BMW championships in Denver, some of my best photos were of the course without players and fans. I got there early enough to take photos of greens with dew and mist rising from the lakes. Even though you will be able to take photos, still be respectful of spectators and the players. The person who said walk the course backward is right. If you had more days I would suggest walking 3 holes with a group then pause for the next group then walk 3 with them. I do envy you, a great course to take in.

I've been to the practice rounds twice, last time in 2014 for the Wed. Par 3 tournament.
I had Canon gear - a 7d & a 5dIII along with a F2.8 24-70 and & F2.8 70-200.
If I were to go again, I would put the 70-200 on my upgraded 7d II and the 24-70 (or 24-105) on the 5dIII. I'd also take along a 1.4 doubler & a monopod. Should get you close enough & wide enough for everything you need.
As I look back at most of the garbage shots I captured, I regret that I wasn't smart enough to shoot Raw.
They don't rape you in the Pro shop for souvenirs & the food is great & dirt cheap.

I may be wrong on this, but there may be some limitations on the size camera/lens you can bring onto the course, even during practice rounds. Check their website. The last thing you want to do is try to bring something in for which they have established “Masters protocols”. There are many exceptional photo opportunities at Augusta National. Enjoy the trip. The grounds are very hilly so bring gear that is comfortable to handle. Year ago I got some really great photos with my Canon G-9 that I cherish to this very day.

One poster in this thread said camera bags are not allowed, however after an exhaustive search of official and unofficial sites I don't believe that is true.

You cannot bring a backpack but you can have a carry bag no bigger than 10"×10"×12".

In reading a thread about cameras on another forum one responder said any lens you may bring should fit in that 10"×10"×12" bag, so that may preclude the 200-600mm zoom the OP was thinking about taking.

Cell phones are prohibited at all times as are video cameras...of course just about any modern digital camera can take videos, just don't get caught. If you are asked to leave you will be banned for life.

A couple of other things...don't take off your shoes or lie on the grass. Supposedly if you are sitting on the grass and lean back too far you will be told to sit up straight...not kidding.

The 24-105 is the lens you will use the most. The large lens will be in the car after about 30 minutes. If you can get a 70-200 that would be the best alternative. I live in Augusta and go frequently and there are no hassles with cameras during the practice rounds.
