I recently purchased a Nikon Z6-II. I will be taking a trip to the western national parks in May and want to take some video during my trip. I am a video beginner. Looking for tutorials and resources that can help me navigate this new endeavor. I will be looking through the posting in this section but looking for any and all suggestions.

Youtube has sooo many tutorials - just enter your camera make/model and "tutorials on videography" and you will probably find some good ones that will walk you through the process.

Are you looking for suggestions on how to operate the camera? Are you looking for how to create a story people will actually want to watch? Are you asking about video editing?

Every Fri receive a free email newsletter from DIY Video Editor - diyvideoeditor.com to sign-up. Although slanted towards post editing it always has articles on angles, lights, in-camera data, etc. Besides the obvious YouTube videos it is also a great source for any amateur or advanced in videography.

I'd say practice shooting video before you take the trip. You can shoot anything, your house and yard, your neighborhood, a park, indoors, etc., in different lighting conditions. Get comfortable with the controls and settings and the output. Shoot 15 or 20 second sequences. Pan slowly. Give the viewer enough time to absorb the scenes. You can narrate the scenes as you shoot them. Here's an example of my first video, shot on a train trip to Reno in 2000.

Congrats on your Z6ii. I have a Z6 that I use for both photography and video. It’s a great camera for producing video, and the Z6ii certainly has more to offer than the Z6.

Like Bob mentioned above practice is key. While shooting video utilizes many photography principles (iso, aperture, etc) there are a lot of new things to learn - frame rate, audio, etc. I love photography but since I started dabbling in video, I find it more rewarding (and more challenging) trying to create something of interest. A lot of YouTube tutorials on the basics of video, but little in the way of creativity or editing for effect.

If you have specific questions, please post. If you have a video posted on YT or Vimeo or wherever, post the link if you want an opinion or brief review. There are a number of folks here with more knowledge than I.

Have a wonderful trip
