I just purchased a lens adapter to use my sigma SA lens with my Sony A7r II, I know this may be a dumb question but I looked online and cant get a straight answer, why does it need a power charger, I thought it was just a connection between camera and lens. I have an adapter for nikon to Sony and it didnt come with a charger.

No just attach it to the lens and put it on the camera. I have it on my 100-400 Sigma lens for Canon and it works well.

You are probably misunderstanding the purpose of the USB socket on the side of the adapter.

That is NOT for power.

That socket is simply used to update the firmware installed in the adapter. No need to do so if the latest is already installed.

Some Sigma lenses with similar "dock" can be "tuned" for various things such as their speed of focus, how their image stabilization works, etc. Because it's just an adapter, I doubt these things are possible or necessary with the MC-11... so that dock is probably just used for updates.

Power adapter!? Never heard of one for the MC-11. I use one for Canon to Sony A7 cameras.
