Looked out the back window and in a tree over the back fence I noticed this. Thought it was a hummingbird nest, but that doesn't seen right. Have to admit that I don't know

It looks similar to a paper wasp nest; but they usually hang and are grayer in color. how big is it?

It's about 4" top to botton. Whatever it is was built really fast as I have not noticed it before

I think it may be an Oriole nest.

That’s my guess, an oriole nest. Don’t know what specific species you have in Texas compared to the Northern Oriole here in the Northeast.
Good eyes!

That's the best I can figure. I just haven't seen any type of Oriole around here in quite some time

The oriole nests I have seen are an open weave design and way more than four inches long, more like a foot or better! Nothing like the photo. I'll bet it's an insect nest of some kind!

Thanks Chief. I don't think it was there yesterday and I been watching it today and have seen no activity around it.

It's definitely insect made. Oriole nests are woven from fine stranded material and need the support of sturdy branches for suspension. This nest appears to be made of paper and has little plant support.

Looks like a gall. Possibly Oak Apple.

I have found several similar things on our property and Google informs me that it is the cocoon of the polyphemus moth.
