I shoot with a Sony 77a Markii. I have been searching for a bigger lense as I do a lot of wildlife and waterfowl. I saw a member in the forum who recommended mpb to somebody else about equipment.
I found a used Sigma 120 - 400, a mount ( very hard to find as my understanding is Sony is going to start doing away with a mount) on MPB. It is in good condition and is described as having light dust in the lense which will not impact quality of photos. 349$
My question is, does light dust impact the quality of the photo??
I have never bought used lenses so I am pretty much watching what folks here say. I appreciate all your constructive input. Thanks so much.
Oh I am using a Sony kit lense that came with my 350a back in mid 2000's, so an upgrade is obviously needed. It is a 70 - 300, but my camera has button to increase focal length 1.4x or 2.0x. I use this feature frequently and do get decent results, however, I realize a lense is needed...again thanks for your input.
I use a Minolta 100-400 APO on my Sony A65 and my Sony 77a Markii. It works fine and produces tack sharp images. I bought mine new many years ago and used it on a Minolta 9XI. You can pick up one in excellent quality used for 200 to 300 dollars.
Light dust is not an issue.

I have relied on information posted here to help guide me through the forest of available lenses with good results. The info here has been eye opening.

Dust in the front elements...no big deal.
Dust in the rear elements...bigger deal.

Just a reminder, there is no "E" on the end of the word Lens.

Yes, dyxum site is a great resource, not scientific evaluations, but plenty of actual (claimed) user input on a very large number of A mount and some E mount lenses. I've used it many times.
FYI...Sony dumped A-mount a while back...no longer sold by them anymore as new.
If you want the best long zoom lens you can get for your A-mount...keep an eye out for the stellar Sony 70-400mm II lens. Native is always best...even on an A-Mount.
Old Minolta's are still nice...but Sony was designing for their specific bodies near the end of the A-mount line.
The 70-400mm was the pinnacle of said design.

For your entertainment. Why is it that so many with photography as a hobby don't know how to spell the basic parts?

If someone makes a typo (we have all done that) or otherwise does not know correct spelling, who cares? We' re here to discuss all things photographic not criticise nor bring attention to anyone's minor spelling errors.
