When you start remodeling an old house, you never know what you'll find when you tear down a wall. I usually put the date somewhere when I do a project.
Wow! What great photos and memories!
Wow, amazed by number three!

Right! Like the beginning of a horror movie.
My house was built in the 1870's. When I removed the wallpaper in the hallway I found the original paint, a greenish color and hand painted boarder at the top. In the living room over the fireplace under the old (really horrid) '50s wallpaper I found where the paperhanger had signed it. I knew him when I was much younger. I signed and dated it when I put the new wallpaper up.
Have had the same experience. Found an order dated 1890 from the local health officer, the doctor who owned the house, directing all horses be off the streets by nightfall. They were trying to contain a cholera outbreak by washing down the streets to get rid of the horse poop and pee.
There were other things like that and we gave them to the local historical society.
You never know what you’re going to find, sometimes.
For you electricians out there, I replaced a lot of post-and-tube cotton wrapped wiring, too.
This was in the 80’s and I never thought to photograph any of our discoveries. DUH!
I grew up in a house that was over 100 years old, it had many additions to accommodate a growing family. Every time an addition was completed a current newspaper was placed in a wall. When it was remodeled they were found. It fun to see old newspapers.
