PC Clock Battery for a HP Compaq dc7700 small form factor?

Google seems to be out to lunch this afternoon...
Anyone have a clue as to what Clock Battery is suppose to go into a vintage HP Compaq dc7700

I'm getting multiple conflicting answers... seems it's either a 1.5 volt or 3 volt?
These button batteries all seem to be the same diameter, only vary in thickness and voltage.

Yep I can pull it out and replace in kind however I'd like to see what HP Compaq might have shipped these small form factor PC's with. (HP Compaq made a huge number of them).

Many thanks if your familiar with this PC...
Otherwise I'll just reset the clock every time I have to reboot the puppy. :)

Oh, don't forget to turn your clock forward on Sunday the 13th (I totally hate losing a hour of sleep! lol)

Thomas I googled hp compaq dc 7700 and hp tech said either the cr 2025 or cr 2032. Both are 3 volt Just different thicknesses. Also advised to back up cmos settings before removing battery. It will save some time. Stay well. John

"...Also advised to back up cmos settings before removing battery." Good idea jzett! Many thanks..
Yep I'm seeing the CR 2025 or CR 2032 at the top of the list...

Will keep everyone in the loop once I move forward with this...

Maybe this will help.

"...It will be the CR2025 or CR2032 both are 3V button cells, have identical diameters but the 2032 is 3.2mm thick while the 2025 is 2.5mm thick..." Many thanks Bill, much appreciated...

Fortunately both of those button Lithium Batteries are readily available...
And that vintage HP Compaq dc7700-SFF is dual core and handles 8GB of RAM...
So it's actually worth the time/effort to refurbish it... especially since it was virtually a freebie...

Again many thanks Bill

In this case the numbers actually make some sense. The batteries are both 20 mm in diameter and 2.5 or 3.2 mm thick. (There is also a 2016 which is same diameter and just 1.6 mm thick). The thicker they are the more goo inside and the greater the current capacity. They are all nominal 3 volts.

if it will fit, put in the 2032 and it will last longer.

Thanks MrPhotog... Yes I noticed the 2016 is also 3volts albeit only the CR2025 or CR2032 have been recommended by HP's product literature so far...

An interesting note: Once powered down the PC boots with the exact time of power down (not the date of the initial BIOS) so it appears it's writing this to read/writable memory...

Oh, we're amid a blizzard in DC today, so it's on-line shopping only for now. Was going to pick those batteries up but will have to wait... Crazy weather, 65 yesterday, forecast for the teens tonight... What happened to Global Warming? lol

Again many thanks MrPhotog

Try This When you pull the old button cell you will loose all CMOS settings if they are not already gone.

PS. My Google search was : "backup battery for compaq dc7700

I know it’s somewhat risky, but I used to open the case, turn my computer on, and replace the battery while on. I believe when power is on, the cmos settings are retained.
I’m probably wrong!

Global warming does not mean it will never be cold again in any given place. It only means that the globe as a whole on average is getting warmer. As a matter of fact, if the Greenland ice all melts, the gulf stream could stop and Europe could get considerably colder. Science needs to be more carefully of terms used. Climate change is much better. Chaos is what will happed between now and a new future climate setting. You don't alter something like an entire planets climate without chaos. This is much like HBP, diabetes, etc. the change is slow, but by the time the effects are noticed, the damage is done. Will be decades before the true effects are known and then it will takes decades and maybe centuries to reverse if ever.

And both are very common sizes, easily available.

My wife's first pc was an HP. Things were so tight in the case that the instructions for changing the battery said to remove the motherboard.

The 2025 is commonly used in key fobs. Walmart carries them in the automotive department. I just bought a couple for the Nikon remote control.
