I have a Canon BR-E1 remote control, but I would prefer something more advanced that doesn’t require the camera be set for a 2 second delay. Any suggestions?

Check to see if Yongnuo makes one for your camera. I have used their remotes for years with great results.

I find the BR-E1 works well on the RP. You might be misunderstanding the way it works.
Although the camera must be set to a "delay" release mode for the remote to work, the remote can still provide either an instant release or a 2 second delay release depending on the position of the slide switch on the side of the remote.
Or perhaps you don't like needing to change camera release modes to switch between releasing with the remote and releasing instantly with the shutter button.
Do you need the wireless?
The RS-60E3 plugs into the socket on the side of the camera to serve as a simple, wired, remote shutter release switch.
There also are "intervalometers" that connect in the same way, but are a bit fancier to allow you to set up time lapse sequences, timed delays and such. They can also be used as a simple release switch. I don't believe Canon makes one, but Vello, JJC, Viltrox and others do.

Thanks. I will do that tomorrow since we will have a lot of free time. Big snow storm expected.

I would think you would use your smart phone (if you have one) to do remote control of newer Canon cameras - I know I can do that on the almost ancient compact SX700, long in the tooth super-zoom 60SX, EOS-80D, and now the R5 using built in Wi-Fi and Canon Connect App on my Samsung phone. My old 40D and 7D did not have built in Wi-Fi so I bought CamRanger for them (which I rarely used) - now all 3 are collecting dust.

How long are you doing remote shooting? Extra batteries are good insurance as well.

Only for very occasional jobs that last less than an hour each

I did my granddaughter's HS formal pictures but kept the R5 on a tripod tethered to my laptop and from there to the big screen TV. Not sure it helped a lot but at least my daughter could make adjustments to her youngest child's posing as we went along. Shame she missed the flyaway hair though. Small details are hard to fix later on. For group pictures I set the phone up to communicate with the camera and hand my phone to a person on the front row (usually my wife to hit the button) as I am usually in the back row.
