I recently set up a studio in a converted garage. I'm now getting some requests for pet portraits (I guess it's getting popular)
For my own "Art" I've always used a high end print co. in my area, but he charges $20+ for a 11 x 17 print.
For the pet portraits I don't need that high end quality, so I'm looking for suggestions and experiences with online print companies. My initial research actually rates Walmart print services as good quality, although to me Walmart and good quality just seems oxymoronic.
Thank's in advance for any and all input.
Walgreens seems to have good gear.
I've done Walgreen's for some "personal" 8x10, 11x14, etc. I don't doubt Walmart does a good job: It's all automated. But for better quality, where I can set the color gamut and choose different papers (or metal!) I use a pro service. I did an exhibit and had every piece done professionally, and now those photos adorn my walls.
White House Custom Color or BayPhoto for prints, and CG Pro Prints for canvas.
I just found a new service that I'm going to try out it's called Xpozer. I like their innovative style, their pricing, and they have huge prints.
I just used CG ProPrints for a print I’m going to frame. First time using them for paper, not canvas, prints. Very pleased with the result. Fwiw.

If I had paid you to take pictures, why would I not expect you to do "high-end quality" work?
MPix is my printer if choice. I once tested a favorite photograph and had it printed by White Wall, Adorama pix and MPix. MPix not only did the best job but was less expensive than White Wall.

I’ve heard good reports about Bay Photo - in Scott’s Valley (Near Santa Cruz and San Jose California). Lots of online support. Same one you are recommending?

I have found Printmakers in Pawtucket, RI to have excellent quality, good prices and the willingness to work with you to meet your needs. Very highly recommended.

People having portraits taken of their pets typically view their pets as children and would be upset to find you were cutting corners.

Given your location, you might be using Blazing Editions which does outstanding work, IMHO. I would look at opening an account at one of the more professional labs (I use WHCC). There's Bay Photo, WHCC, and several others. If you're concerned about lowering costs, you might consider printing your own work. I use an Epson P800 (now P900) for up to 16" x 24" and send the rest out. I post some of my work on SmugMug and those purchases are fulfilled by WHCC. Best of luck.
