Here're a few from last Sunday, just about high tide and the waves mostly had some good shape...D5 with the 200-500 f5.6 (I'm "patiently waiting for my Z9, so had to use the best I had. No complaints, but there never are with that machine.)

Brent died?! Wow, I was set to meet up with him a time or two during covid but we never got it done.

Thanks for sharing Charlie. Shutter speed ? Curious as to your distance from the shoreline ? Do you use a monopod ? Great shots. Paul

...very rarely do I shoot from the shoreline, Paul, the pier is *much* better IMO. Distance from the surfers allows a leveling of sorts, you only notice the elevation when the guys get close. Yes I use a monopod, but sometimes I'll trot out a gimbal when I'm lazy. I'm very comfy with the mono, as that is what I use for pageantry events which may last 12 hours at a "sitting." Shutter is anywhere from 2k to 4k as I shoot aperture priority for my sports stuff (I've played with shutter priority but I want to control the aperture more, and moving fast and jumping from athelete to athelete precludes manual...surfing doesn't demand much over a thousanth, but I just like a fast shutter anyhow with a stable aperture, so generally set ISO at 400 on most of my bodies.). I'm using the 200-400 f5.6 here...

Thanks Charlie. I like to shoot surfing here in NJ on Long Beach Island. Completely different. No piers and of course small waves. Lots of fun nonetheless. Stay well. Paul

I've ran that 18 miler from tip to tip 3 times...'course back in the late nineties! Love the small towns along the strand, and, of course Barnagat Light. Usually there in the winter, hence no surfing...maybe some fishing! Got a buddy who used to own/operate a joint called "Tiki Tacos" on the south end...
