Hi Hedgehoggers!
I have a question. Because of circumstances beyond my control I’ve had to give up my Sony RX10 m3. I had to replace it with a Nikon Coolpix B600. Is it still worth it to try to get good photos? The Nikon is totally automatic, or “PHD MODE”. Press here dummy ! Only a joke but an old one. I’m going to miss having any control with it and the 1” sensor is real small. Anyway I won’t get many chances to use it anyway. I am living in a place where I cannot get out on my own and my Wife isn’t doing too well. She can barely drive. I need to get ideas for easy photo ops.

Why wouldn't it take good photos?
Just a different tool that operates differently.
I have no idea of the physical size of the sensor in my 15 year old H-1 (my second camera), and I don't really care, but it tales great pictures.

Some overlook the versatility of "Program Mode".
Typically, turning one dial adjusts aperture and/or shuttter speed in 'opposite directions'. The camera has exposure compensation. If you work with just those adjustments you should be able to get pretty much any exposure you want.
If you really enjoy photography, this camera may slow you down a little, but it shouldn't stop you.

That B600 from 2019 is no slouch! It is an improvement on the B700 (from 2016), but the lens has the same reach. I got some great photos of tiny birds with my neighbor's B700 at 1,400mm zoom. I might suggest using a tripod when zoomed out that far, as it is very hard to hold it steady at that range. If you have bird feeders, you can find a good vantage point (not shooting through windows!), and see how close you can bring in those tiny gems. Also, on a daily walk, you have such a huge range (24-1440mm!) at your disposal, and it only weighs about a pound.

A window bird feeder is always fun. Or, have a bird feeder put into your property, better yet, a thistle feeder for Finch, a red humming bird feeder, and a regular bird feeder, then photograph your birds from your window.

Keep moving. Seriously, keep moving. It does not matter what camera you use, where you use it, what mode you use it on or anything else. Just keep shooting.
From mobility problems I am assuming you had an illness. As I write this I am on the mend from serious cancer surgery and am kinda limited in my mobility for a few weeks. (Guys, see your urologist every 6 months! Saved me!). When I can get out I am going to keep on doing! I’ve not canceled plans to go to Africa later this year and am making other plans now.
Wonks can talk about modes and such but the real thing is to take meaningful image, one that evokes memories or emotions in you or your audience. Can’t get out much, shoot what is around the house. Have any mementos that mean something to you? Do a still life and learn some some layering to make art. Whatever. Just shoot. The camera is nothing more than a hammer.

Take pictures of staff, guests, and your wife. Sure if you can get around outside take pictures of birds, cars, the neighborhood. Sometimes those are the most important pictures that so many will enjoy.

One of my favorite photos (cropped, attached) was taken with my SX50 HS that was in "P" mode at the time. It is also a bridge camera. You can see flares coming from the sun in this shot of the eclipse.
I don't know the circumstances that had you acquire the B600, but there are cameras in the same price range that have more control over aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. The Lumix DC-FZ80 is one example.

Sorry you're confined, Johnnyt. Sometimes when I feel cabin fever getting the best of me, I drag out the tripod and indulge in some still life. Not everything is museum quality but I've had good success with dish and tableware arrangements, stacks of books and even low-angle photos of my Greyhound. I've interrupted dinner preparation a few times as well to grab shots of veggies and fruits in various stages of preparation. All in good fun but they've been well received.

I went back and re thought my post. What about doing a photo essay of some sort? The love of your wife or the folks around you? Pick a theme like happiness.
