I am rethinking taking my D850 and 3 lenses or the D500 and 18 to 300 to Croatia, Montenegro and Bosnia for a 4 week vacation. The weight and bringing attention to me due to the expensive cameras and the suggestion my wife made about traveling light is making think about getting a different camera.

Is there a camera with built in lens that you would recommend?
Thanks

Olympus TG-6, Sony RX10, and an Olympus or Panasonic with a 14-150 f4/5.6 lens (28-300 in 35mm terms). The last item of Olympus or Panasonic with lens would not have the built-in lens. But with only one lens, you would never need to take it off. The first two have smaller sensors while the Olympus and Panasonic will have a bigger sensor. The Sony will have the widest range. All good options with each having their advantages / disadvantages.

I'm with Chg_Canon. One camera one lens when traveling light. An incidental benefit is that you will learn that lens intimately.

I choose large memory cards so they never leave the camera. With a dslr you can usually get away with one battery and a compact charger. A mini lens cleaner kit and no camera bag. No lens cover. CPL filter.

Assume you will zoom with your feet and choose the focal length accordingly.

Bring the gear that thumps that gland in your brain. Otherwise better to just rely on your phone.

Check out the Olympus outlet. You can find a great buy on an OM-10 or a PEN and the 14-150.

Careful. You are going not too far from Ukraine.

I've been to Alaska twice and ditched the bulky stuff. Purchased a Sony RX100M6, on a recommendation from BH Photo. Pocket sized, great photos and movies. Quality was great. I have posted some of those on UHH. The only drawback of that camera is battery life. If you go this route bring a couple of extra "Sony" batteries......BadDog

5 cameras come to mind, three(3) from Olympus and two(2) from Lumix (Panasonic); Olympus EM10- Mk II, or Mk IV. Olympus EM5 MkIII (weather proof, light weight). These (except the Lumix) are Micro 4/3 interchangeable lens cameras.

From Lumix, come the "all-in-one" "Bridge" models FZ300 (weather resistant) and FZ1000 with notable ZOOM ranges, the FZ300 with a constant f2.8 throughout its range (not sure about the FZ1000). Any of these, even with their small sensors will give good results, the Olys being closer to what you're used to regarding adjustable feature access. Reduction of bulk, weight and image quality are the concerns here.

NOTE: I traveled, across country, with both Oly EM10 and Lumix FZ200( previous to FZ300), and was very surprised at the results from both.

Oh yeah I would strongly recommend the Sony RX10 IV. Check out the reviews on YouTube. I have this camera and with it's phase detection focus and 24-600 lens and superioer video what can be better?

I have traveled as much as you. Probably more. I am old, female, and small. I could be easily over powered. I have to lug my own gear, I don’t do photography alone at night when I think i could be mugged for the camera.
I have rarely used the tripod when I’ve taken it, except for the tram in front of the Bordeaux Opera House at night, and the rare waterfall.
I have all Nikon big bodies and lenses.
One year I spent a week in New Orleans and deliberately only took my 50mm f/1.4. I love those photos. That combo works in any city.
If I were going where you are headed, with those constraints, I would definitely not take more than the D500 with a 35mm lens, or my husband’s Panasonic FZ1000 bridge camera. In Asia I put black gaffer tape over the Nikon embossment. No problems ever on that Asia trip. I would go back in a heartbeat.
My husband and I always always cross pack our clothes in our suitcases so when (not if) one is lost we always have some stuff. He wears a money belt under his clothes. I wear a vest or jacket with inside pockets. My camera stuff is in ordinary crappy backpacks with camera inserts inside. And I always have a laptop because some emergencies cannot be handled on a phone or tablet.
I could write a book of tips and narrow escapes we have had. We are hoping to get back to France and Spain May 23.

TRAVEL RIGHT, TRAVEL LIGHT!!!!!
Where ever I go on vacation I like holding my wife's hand and be hands free. That is why I always take my Sony HX99 with a belt pouch. The pouch has a belt loop and the camera just fits inside.
The HX99 shoots RAW, has a ZEISS 24-750 mm lens capable of sharp 20X30 prints, a pop up viewfinder for outdoors, HDR, built in flash that does Auto fill flash outside and in. And best of all, it won't break the bank. I have several wall hangers from this camera. And yes, you will not be able to set in down once you get into it.
I just put it on the camera+ setting and the camera does everything I would have done automatically.
So, make your spouse happy and get one. You won't be sorry.

Here are just a few of the images from this guy. Enjoy and get one before you go. Can you tell I like to be around the water?

I bring an extra battery and memory card. All that is really needed along with the camera and favorite lens.

Good recommend "billnikon", I'm the Oly, Lumix guy and I'd forgotten about this little beauty. Great images as well so I can't disagree with you, the SONY HX99 belongs on the short list.

If I was looking for a good travel package - I'd get a NIKON Z50 (DX) with the 16-50mm & The 50-250mm lens package. If you catch it on sale it's around $1195 @ B & H or try Adorama - Go shopping - You'll love that setup - Small and light weight with coverage from 16mm - 250mm, a mirrorless camera all in a small package that delivers EXCELLENT vacation pictures. I had one and loved it - sold it to help finance my Z9 - You can actually add a FTZ II adapter and use your G lenses if you like. Trust me; Your Wife will like it too

For a camera with a built-in lens, the Sony RX10-M4 is the way to go. However, it weighs about 3.5 pounds which means with a medium camera bag & accessories, the whole kit is about 5 pounds.

But after using the RX10 for about a year, I'd now suggest a Leica CL which weighs less than a pound. I carry a Sigma 18-50 f2.8, a Leica Vario Elmar TL 55-135, and a Sigma 30mm f1.4. Together with a Tenba Skyline 12 bag & accessories, the entire outfit also weighs 5 pounds.

When I go out shooting, I typically carry the camera over my shoulder with one lens -- for a total weight of less than 2 pounds. Since these are all APS-C lenses with 1.5 times the listed focal length, the reach of the 3 lenses is 28mm-200mm. In addition, you have genuine Leica vivid color and sharpness since even the Sigma lenses are very good.

By buying the Leica CL and Vario Elmar lens used, the outfit becomes readily affordable since most people who own Leicas take pride in caring for their equipment. I'm in my late 70s and love to cruise and do street shooting. I think that this outfit fits my lifestyle perfectly.

The baboons were shot at the Oakland Zoo at 200mm from about 40 feet away with the 55-135 Vario Elmar. The red butt indicates that the big male was on alert and was warning intruders to stay away.

Point well made. GetOlympus.com, Keh, and others are a good source. The Olympus site puts it back to as close to new as possible.
