Nikon D780, 200-500mm with Nikon 1.4 teleconverter. Distance: ~100m. Taken on bench above my home in Provo, Utah. He was one of 11 rams in the little herd. Criticism welcome.

I understand you were very far away. When so far away just the slightest movement will be noticeable. I downloaded to see if it could be improved. When I did I opened in Photoshop and made an adjustment using camera shake, then sharpened with the High Pass filter. I then blurred the background to see if it would help. I think it made a more dramatic image. If you would like to see it please ask.

OK here is my version sharpening the main element and softening the background. Last minute I cloned out the twigs.

Wow, substantial improvement. That's the nice thing about this forum. Ask a question and you usually get a helpful answer.

Jim, Thank you ... drastic improvement. It should be noted that I don't think I did anything to the original except maybe for minor sharpening (over entire image). Can you please give me the details on how you softened the background? I use APS only.

I used Photoshop CC.
I made a duplicate layer added a mask keeping the ram visible.
When making the blur background I selected the Ram's mask. I modified this selection by expanding the selection 12 pexels. Clicked the layer below the Ram then filed the selection with Content Aware. This layer now has shut background d no ram. Now I blurred this background layer using the Gaussian blur filter, sliding the amount till the sharp lines disappeared but still leaving some resemblance of background.

I think it lacks enough contrast. The ram gets lost in the background.

Help me a little, Jim. I cannot figure out how to, as you put it, make "an adjustment using camera shake." Can you give a guy a hint?

For me it's a lot of trial and error.
I started with this Video

A wonderful moment to see a ram in the wild. I like the image and agree that it needed some sharpening. I also noted that you got rid of the little branch that diverted the eye. Great job. My only suggestion would be to try to select the subject and bring it out more wit a bit more adjustment...just a bit...of course the animal's skin is camouflage so it might be a challenge to separate.

Well done by the op and the editor on this!
