These are delightful, Sylvia. But I am compelled to ask: Was Lady Windermere and/or her Fan in attendance at your birthday soirée as well? Not asking for me, you understand; asking for that 'ol jokester, Wilde Oscar...

Happy to know you enjoyed them Cany and thank you very much for your always interesting comments! We didn’t see Lady Windermere, I think she was probably sitting in a suite along the corridor where we stayed with her fan and trying to work out why her husband broke her heart! Possibly Oscar was also along the corridor in another suite, working on a new play.
Another twist to the tale, when we went to check out we had been overcharged, on our last night at dinner they said we had two extra dinner guests…….invisible to us, could they have been ghosts of the Lady and Oscar Wilde?

We stayed a few days at the Lakeside Hotel on the shores of Lake Windermere for my birthday. We were fortunate on the day that once the mist cleared we had blue skies and no rain, the rest of our stay was very wet and windy. More blue skies in part 2.

The hotel was originally a 17th century Coaching Inn and was used as a staging post and resting place for travellers, who worked in the thriving cotton trade of Lancashire and Yorkshire in the 1900s. Guests stayed here en route to local businesses such as the bobbin mills in the area.
