There are even more baby alligators at the Viera Wetlands now. This is surprising, since the "official" alligator mating season doesn't start until April. Obviously someone forgot to tell the alligators! Ah...springtime!

Steve. Went there yesterday. Didn't see very many alligators sunning themselves by the lake banks. Would have liked someone one to have been walking me though to feel more safe. My legs were killing me after a short time & I was getting over heated by the hot weather in the afternoon. Seems like the health in my legs is deteriating again. About 5 years ago I had stints put in my left leg. Two years ago they did a rotor rudder on my right leg. Everything was fine until a few months ago. That is when my legs started hurting again while walking. They weren't allowing cars onto the levees. There was one real dumb young couple I spied as I was going to the main gate. They were walking with there young 3 year old (I guess that was the kids age) & a nice size dog on the levee. I thought to myself I hope the alligators don't see them. Another couple warned them but they just kept on walking deeper into the park. Hope I don't read about an alligator attacking them. Take care Steve. Michael.

Very neat pictures. Those things look so neat to see. Who would think that a few years later they would grow up to eat people, dogs, deer etc.?

Steve. Went there yesterday. Didn't see very many ... (show quote)

Generally people are OK with the gators as long as they stay up on the roadways. No one has ever been attacked there... so far. When they had the volunteer program (which they got rid of) I saw one guy playing right at the edge of the water with a 3-year old. He got very snarky with me when I tried to explain how dangerous that was. I think it is a shame that they stopped letting people drive through - not everyone can walk so easily. Good luck with the legs - always best to keep walking as much as you comfortably can - even walking in a pool. I have seen some folks using electric bicycles (most of which you can also peddle, or even use "peddle assist") to get around the wetlands and other places. That looks like a pretty good option for some folks with bad arthritis or poor circulation (not every place allows them...).
