Male Double Crested Cormorant in breeding plumage at the Riverwalk Parkway in Riverside on Friday 2-25-22 in early afternoon light and looking a bit grumpy.
He was on the north end of the little island in the Duck Pond and at this point he landed about 9-10 feet to the left of a female who was also putting on a show.
They kept preening etc. and edging closer until I left 20 minutes later when they were about 4 feet apart. That background is the sky reflected off the water with a lot of floating scum and algae clumps.
I was on the observation platform at the other end of the island.
Canon 90D, Canon 70-300L @ 300, 1/500 @ f/6.3, ISO-200
hand held at 30+ feet, very contrasty light, I need to go back during the week and hope some cormorants are around
What a great shot. Double-crested Cormorant in breeding plumage.

Thanks, the wife says he and I get our eyebrows done at the same place.

Good grief, ain't no gal Cormorant going to bed down with him. It is time for a beauty shop to take care of the overgrown eyebrows and a plastic surgeon to take tucks in the chin. Perhaps false teeth would fill out the gums only mouth. The only positive thing I can say is ... he has good skin and plumage color and the blue-green eyes are attractive.
There are times when excellent photography is not flattering, I personally avoid well-lit mirrors they reveal that I am not the man in breeding plumage that I was when young. I have sympathy for this gentleman Cormorant .
This is a stellar image. I love the expression and everything about this image.

She isn't exactly a Disney Princess either.
