You Want Change In The Federal Government ? ? ?

It's a shame that most of us don't understand how our Federal Government is supposed to work.

There are three equal branches. The operative word is 'equal.' As such when things go right they all get part of the credit and when things go wrong we the people blame only one part of the government.

In addition to the three branches there are also two additional branches.

The Three Main Equal Branches of The Federal Government

The reason why the country's forefathers created three branches (parts) of government was to avoid we the people from being ruled by a dictatorship, king or queen. Unfortunately we the people are guilty of creating kings and queens. How do we do this? First a little lesson in Civics.

The main three equal branches of the Federal Government (please note the words “equal” and “main”);
1. Congress - whose two primary purposes are
a. to write just, Constitutional (valid) proposed laws and
b. to fund the implementation of signed laws
There primary purpose is not to enrich themselves especially at the expense of the people. Does this sound familiar?

2. President - who signs or vetoes the proposed laws. If;
a. the President signs the proposed law, bill, then the bill becomes law and the President
1) is tasked with implementing the law providing Congress funds the law. See 1a.
b. the President vetoes the proposed law then the proposed law is returned to Congress
who has three choices;
1) forget about the proposed law
2) override the President’s veto by a certain number of votes
3) rewrite the proposed law and re-submit it to the President. See 2a.

The President has a third choice. The President can veto, sign or ignore the proposed law. If the president chooses to do nothing as in ignoring the proposed law, the proposed law sits on the President’s desk and after a prescribed number of days, the bill, proposed law, automatically becomes law. Then see 2a1). if the law is challenged it becomes subject to the Judiciary.

3. Judiciary or Supreme Court - whose main purposes is to state whether or not a law is
a. Constitutional, hence valid and it is to be implemented (see 2a1) or
b. the proposed law is un-Constitutional, hence not to be implemented. Then the law, goes back to Congress.

Two Additional Equal Branches of The Federal Government

Over the centuries and decades, over 230 years, during the existence of our country there has come to believe by some that there are two additional branches to the Federal Government;

4. We the people whose responsibilities are
a. to elect, our Congressional politicians by voting them
1) in office
2) out of office
3) to continue in office
b. to check on our Congressional politicians
c. to amend the Constitution. You don’t know we can do that?

5. The Free Press (media; newspapers, magazines, radio, TV, etc.) whose main responsibility is to report the facts, news, without biased or opinions. Opinions are to be left to editorials.

In the history of our country, of the 44 Presidents, there has been only one bad President and he was impeached.

SO MY POINT

The point of this prose is that when things go wrong or go not to our likening, it is easy to point our finger at one person, the standing President, rather than look at the whole system. Since the branches are equal, when things go wrong, all are to blame. Let’s fix all. Under President Bush there were things done not to our eventual likening but they would not have been done without the complicities of Congress and the apathy of we the people.

There is a reason why we’ve have a “DO NOTHING CONGRESS.” This current Congress has spent over the last three years making sure that the current “President is a one term President (their words) ,” instead of working for the benefit of we the people, working for the benefit of the country as a whole. AND we the people have been apathetic by failing to exercise all our responsibilities.

We the people have failed in our responsibilities to hold Congress accountable and the media has inflamed things. If you want to blame someone, first blame yourselves.

So how are we the people guilty of creating kings and queens? We don’t vote AND we don’t hold Congress responsible. In other words we don’t exercise ALL our responsibilities. We keep re-electing the same do nothing politicians in effect making them our kings and queens. What do we do? We complain. We don’t act.

So no matter who becomes the 45th President, this country is doomed unless we exercise all our responsibilities. VOTE AND HOLD CONGRESS RESPONSIBLE.

I've not gotten into the rolls of the Congress and the President in waging war and foreign policy. Am just looking at our domestic situation.

By the way;
1. We are not a democracy. We are a republic, supposedly a representative democracy.
2. The concept of democracy doesn’t work well in all cultures. It may not work at all in some cultures. The Middle East is the Middle East; they are who they are. Their cultural does not support the concept of democracy. So let’s keep a strong defense force.
3. Why does Congress have
a. better health benefits than we do?
b. life time pension with health benefits after only working (playing) in Congress for a few years?
c. automatic pay raises?

Why. . .because we the people have failed to exercise all our responsibilities. Congress works for us not we work for them. Maybe it is time for Term Limits? Maybe it is time to restrict their health benefits, pensions and paychecks? Let’s fix all, including us. Maybe it is time for another Constitutional Amendment?

VOTE, EXERCISE ALL OUR RESPONSIBILITIES, AND HOLD
WE THE PEOPLE AND CONGRESS RESPONSIBLE
WHILE REDUCING OUR DEPENDENCY ON FOREIGN OIL

Let's just go in....slap the chit outta them and tell them to listen to the frigging people that put them in there.

Put the new laws on a referendum and I'll go in twice a year to vote on the new laws. But I don't want 2,300 pages, just a paragraph to say what the hell it is about. Then I can check yes or no.

Then again, I ain't a lawyer.

Petony - thanks for the great explanation on how your government is supposed to work. It provides great insight (Political Science 101?) for non-Americans (I'm from Canada.)

The only problem I see is your reference to a "free press". Unbiased??? From an "outsider's" point of view it's unbelievable to see how the various TV networks align with one party or the other. It's almost like advertising. Free press? Perhaps it should be "fee" press.

No insults intended at anyone - just one outsider's opinion.

You forgot to mention that the 'Go Nothing' congress has 2 parts.
A democrat run senate who wants to keep spending money and pushing their government solves all problems agenda, and the republican controlled house who wants to control spending and cut the size government.
So seeing that the president can't get his wants passed through congress, he bypasses them with his executive orders and uses executive privileges to hide behind.

I agree, the free press is "SUPPOSED TO BE UNBIASED." Obviously they are not unbiased. Far to often the press instead of just reporting the news, it is the news. They are all about the ratings not the facts. That's why I check out several different sources on the news.

Also notice that I wrote "...how the federal government is SUPPOSED to work...," not how it actually works. It doesn't work because we the people don't work it.

Since we have a Do Nothing Congress, the only way the President can get anything done is to use Executive Orders. I'm not saying I agree with all the Executive Orders.

I don't know even if Term Limits would clean out Congress and kill the Super Pacs and other money buyers. However, the system is broken. It is not working for us, the country. So lets try something new.

World History shows that all great civilizations are destroyed from within themselves.

If BHO is truly the commander & chief of the military and is derelict in protecting the people at our embassy, should he not be court marshaled along with HRC?

My reply is the way inwhich you use the term "Americans." Almost all of us use it in the same way, limiting it to only refer to the U. S. of A.

Think for a minute. We live in the Western Hemisphere. The two continents are called North America and South America.

Therefore, Argentinians, Brazilians, Canadians, Cubans, Mexicans, etc.; all who reside on theses two continents are also AMERICANS.

You forgot "line item" veto as one of the things we need...With that, a lot of bills that get passed because of the pork attached to get various congressional peoples votes, we could cut out that pork & see who really has the country's interests in mind & not just their own interests...
