I ordered two, so I'll let you know how it works out. I think there's a free trial.
Hey - better yet, send one my way and let me give HER a free trial. She might even buy ME! :)

Amazing, huh? It really does work.
Hope this gets passed to the others on the forum!
We will be besieged with a ton of Life mag photographers - and the beauty is that, it won't cost them a dime!!
a
Cheers,
Take 5

Of course it works a whole lot better if you either grew up, as I did, reading Life and absorbing the photojournalism or if you've gone back and studied the various editions. By the time I came to work in the late '60s Life was history...but I was a TIME contract photographer for many years...one of the proudest days of my life when I first got a byline in that Mag...I'm still proud of that work.

and I think while pretending to be a famous photographer is OK to boost one's confidence that to take it further and pretending to be something and some one you are not is called deception......fraud.....a con.

I am hardly a fraud, my work has been published for decades all over planet earth. I don't pretend anything...
There was a time in my life when, without real experience, I mentally said to myself...what would Gene Smith do or David Duncan do...etc. I have learned a great deal by studying the work of other famous photojournalist. Later, I would meet and and show and tell with several of them. I have a portfolio I am very proud of...

You are absolutely correct! If I go to a local bridal shop and introduce myself as a pro from Bride magazine and try to get a job with them, that's fraud. If I'm out shooting an event and make myself think like a famous photographer - with confidence and imagination - that's creativity.

The difference between fraud and creativity lies in how you deal with other people.

Well said Jerry...In my world people all ready know your work and hire you for precisely that reason. The only time I "pretend" anything is when I dream I'm a tall, dark, handsome, stud muffin....

I still sometimes think about my hero Gene Smith and ask myself "how would he shoot this...how would he go about getting access to these people or this situation..etc." It works!

Eugene Smith. My hero, too.
I was fortunate to attend a lecture of his shortly before he died.

I never got to meet him...At one point I was working on meeting him through another photog who could set it up. I wanted him to view my work and comment and I wanted to pick his brain...sadly, he passed before I got this done. He was one of the truly great photojournalist of all time. It wasn't just the images and stories he produced but his personal involvement. He literally risk his life to help others and bring some justice to a chaotic world. Over the years I've collected his work and I've been privileged to view some of his original prints.

And beyond his awesome photojournalism, his single image "a walk to paradise garden" remains my all time favorite image.

I didn't know the name of that photograph, but an image immediately appeared in my mind - the two little kids. Exellent!

Interesting story. I never knew about that.

He never fully recovered from the beating he took from the factory thugs in Minamata. 'Tomoko Uemura in Her Bath' has been withdrawn from any other further publications.
He said he just snapped off the famous photo of his kids, 'The Walk to Paradise Garden', to finish off a roll of film in his camera that he noticed had a couple frames left. That he didn't really like it.
