With a break in the weather, I finally managed to get back to one of my favorite beaches in Long Branch NJ. It always seems a little weird for a beach in NJ to be almost totally deserted.

I first walked the "Jersey" beaches in 1973. The number of people is still the same but the hi-rises are new, they became gambler's hide-aways.. "A-City" and Margate we the centers of the universe in summer, and Lucy rocked the night away. Springsteen was still a year or two away but the beach was the main event! Shipswheel Inn had the world's biggest and best roast beef delights. '73 was our last big push in SE Asia but October's big surprise was Yom Kimpor and the subsequent airlift to save Israel.. My travels were limited to Europe from this point forward. In two years USAF was finished with the Viet Nam era build-up and told most of us we were no longer needed. My time in Jersey was a brief three years but I managed to pack a lot into it. I discovered the back roads of southern Jersey were a motorcyclist's delight! And then it all came to a halt! The magic of the "Shore" will live on forever and I shall never forget the call to arms "Dunes til dawn" with Rickey and the Rockets blasting well into the early morning, hub caps and all. "7 for a dollar" meant a fresh beer every 7 minutes! We thought our lives were complicated then.............

Thanks David - I'm glad you liked it and also that it brought back some nice memories. Being a NJ resident my entire life, I grew up "going down the shore", and it's always been a part of my life (and still is). I have many happy memories, and hopefully many more to come in the future.
Love that shot. Where is a shot of AC?
So nice to have the beach all to yourself…..nice shot.
Beautiful capture. Winter down the Jersey shore is like a whole different world. A person can enjoy the vastness with the crowds. But not to worry They will return before you know it. So enjoy the solitude while you can.
Having only been to the shore for vacations, its really cool to see the beach empty like that. We really like Sandy Hook, that was a lot of fun, and very strange to see Manhattan across the water. There is a place further south, near AC, a little town called Galloway. There is an historic golf resort called the Stockton Seaview, its been there over 100 years, but newly renovated. Its great because the place is empty during the day, and we have the pool to ourselves since we don't golf, and most of the folks who stay there are ONLY there for the golfing. Its about 10 minutes to AC, and the great part about that is you can leave AC whenever you want (its not that great to begin with).
We went to Cape May for the first time last year, and that was really a great place, I think we might find a place to stay in that area next time.

Serene and beautiful ⚜⚜⚜⚜⚜
I lived and worked on Long Beach Island as a Police O fficer and also owned a Camera Shop in Surf City. But working all the time didn’t much chance to enjoy the beach. Now retired I enjoy the beach and surf fishing.

Dannj - I know I do. It's something I never get to see except in Winter, and is always amazing.
