is ridiculously stupid, from a logistics point of view. This is the second time I've ordered a package from different companies and the package made a round-robin trip bypassing my house by hundreds of miles at a time. This time I ordered a cheap UV filter from Adorama as a sacrificial mount for a Bahtinov mask so I can experiment with astrophotography. It went from Elizabeth to Avenel, NJ, to Kansas City, MO to Waterloo, IA and finally to Belleville, IL (within a few miles of my place, just about 15 miles east of STL). It's out for delivery today, but I ordered it on the 17th or 18th.

And how much shipping cost did you pay?

Nothing, but that wasn't the point of my post. The first experience I had was a textbook (I think). It took a week and a half or more to get to me from Kentucky or Tennessee (about a 4-hr drive). I had to re-order a replacement and have it shipped Fed-Ex to get it on time and ship the original back when I finally got it. I mean what sense does it make to send something 250 miles past where I live, then send it an additional 200 or 300 north before finally shipping it down to my town?

Have a talk with your filter -- tell it the next time it goes on vacation you want to go too!

SurePost (UPS USPS partnership) is a service chosen by the person purchasing or the retailer not the shipping services.

I disagree. I chose the free shipping option, but I had no choice as to the service Adorama used for it.

SurePost is a UPS option for their pickup, but USPS delivery. It is shipped to a local Post Office for normal mail delivery, saving the USP Residential and possible Rural delivery charges which can double what USPS will charge. The shipper saves on cost but the recipient is at the mercy of the Postal delivery whims.

I live in Iron Mountain , Mi.. If I send a package to an Iron Mountain address it first goes to Kingsford, Mi. then to Green bay, Wi.and is then back to the Iron Mountain, Mi. Post office for delivery. Travel distance is 200 miles to deliver a package to an address less than mile away.

I bought two items from the exchange, one item came from KY and arrived by ground within ten days, the other came from the Monterey area of CA and took 18 days to go approximately 100 miles. It traveled from Monterey to San Francisco to Los Angeles to San Francisco to Lathrop where it sat for a week back to San Francisco then to Manteca before it finally came to Modesto for delivery by UPS. Shipping is free from the exchange if over 40.00 dollars and I can not pick the delivery carrier.

When you chose free shipping, it will always be the shippers choice. He is paying the shipping and he is getting a substantial discount for making that carrier his preferred carrier. If you want to choose the carrier, you usually can, but you will pay for the shipping and you might be surprised at just how much more that will cost you. By the way, the carrier will determine the price, not the shipper.
