After reading the posts on UHH I deceided to get a Canon sx50 for my carry around camera. Someone mentioned the Red Caboose the other day so I stopped by and took a few test shots with my new toy.

Ted --Question, does the sx50 or for that matter sx40 shoot in the raw or just jpeg or both? Thanks.

I have only had it for a week. To be honest I haven't figured out how to change it from jpg so I can't say if it can be done The manual is on disk and not that easy to page through. The printed manual is just a quick start kind of thing and doesn't mention picture formats.
When I opened these photos in Photoshop they did not need any processing except for some cropping to get rid of excess parking lot. The white balance was right on.

The SX50 has the capability to set RAW capture without any hack.
The SX40 requires the CHDK hack to add RAW capture, remote release and a number of other improvements.
Very nice series! A fellow UHH recommended the YouTube videos by FatDragon100 on her SX40. Many of the settings apply to the SX50 which I just got a couple of weeks ago. Thanks for sharing your shots with us.
