I should think yes but (not sure)
For RAW infrared files
To be converted to Black and White
Is it necessary/good idea/etc to go through the process of using the DNG profile Editor on the RAW image?
Thanks
Not quite enough information. If your processing software can read the RAW file there is no need to convert to a .dng file. What is your purpose in doing so?

I inferred the OP's question to mean:
For RAW infrared files to be converted to black and white, is it necessary to use the DNG Profile Editor
to create a white balance profile?
In my experience, no. If I'm going to process an IR file for B&W only, Silver Efex Pro provides all of the options I need, beyond the camera's limited custom white balance for IR. However, you may decide at some later point to create an IR color rendition. In that case, Nikon's NX Studio does a better job on white balance than Adobe's DNG Profile Editor. Canon's software may be similar.
In practice, I just always run a batch of IR RAW files through NX Studio anyway, which exports to 16-bit TIFF. In Lightroom, I import both the original RAW and the TIFF. Some future software may improve processing of the RAW.
“ For RAW infrared files to be converted to black and white, is it necessary to use the DNG Profile Editor

I have many of the editors such as LR, PS, Nikon and Affinity, etc
For color IR photos I have been using a custom profile dealing with the intense reds in an IR photo. I think Lightroom has a built in one now and one can also be created to store and use in LR.
My Question was meant to say, is it necessary to apply this profile to an infrared photo that will be processed as black and white
So far the voting seems to be split 50/50.
Thanks
