As most of you know Im a very avid photographer. Just wanted to share my latest Acquistion . Found in a old trunk . Just wander what it has seen in its lifetime. It is a real piece of art !

Is that a glass plate camera?

I have my grandfather’s Rochester glass plate camera. It’s the type that you see on the old movies. It sets on the wooden tripod and has the black cloth hood that drapes over the operator while focusing. I know it’s pre-1919 because I have a photo of my father as a newborn.
One movie blooper to watch for is when the operator has their head under the black cloth when he takes the photo, invariably with the loud smoky hand held flash. The only time your head was under the cloth was during focusing. After doing so, you then inserted the wooden framed plate, removed the wooden cover and then took the photo. Then replaced the cover and removed the plate in its case.
Appears to be in remarkable shape for it's age.
