I'm pretty sure that more selfies have been taken with cell phones than all the pictures ever taken with film. There's no way to prove me wrong, so I'm sticking with that statement.
Long before cell phone cameras, I was taking pictures of myself showing the scene around me. I'd hold the camera in front of me and click the shutter, or I'd use the timer or a tripod. Someone coined the term "selfie," but I suspect many of you have been doing the same thing all along.
Sure did…same techniques as you. I take a lot of pics with my phone but haven’t mastered the art of the selfie. If I’m in one, it’s with someone and they push the button😊

You're right. Somewhere I've got some photos I took of myself while skydiving about 30yr ago. I had a small, 35mm Kodak point & shoot (still have it) that I could shoot one-handed. I would just hold it out with my left hand, look at the lens, and click. Never thought about it at the time but a while back I came across one of the photos and realized I had taken a selfie!

It used to be among many that one did NOT want to be in the photos. Including myself.
Now it is the narcissist mind set of only selfies and the location is secondary.

Every so often the news reports about someone who backed off of a cliff and died trying to get that perfect selfie. I don't recall that ever happening when people weren't trying to be the subject of their own photo.

I know! How could someone do that?!
I think the most important thing to master in the selfie is those pouty lips they all do
Jerry, when doing the selfies of old, how did you place and how much gun power for the flash did you use? (sent in fun)

First, obviously, I had to make sure I was not in an explosive environment. I carried all the black power in my backpack, but I had to be careful when I went to hot climates. I always worried about that. I had a nice folding powder stand and a little measuring cup for the powder. I can tell you - I got some surprised looks from people nearby.

In AZ at Workman falls a guy murdered his wife by having her back up until she lost her footing and fell.
Not a selfie though.

No selfies in the rain, huh?

I would never be that close to and edge and not facing it. I wonder if the hubby got a picture of her as she started to fall. Imagine the look on her face. That had to be horrible.

I would imagine.
I camped in the summer in the area for the whole time I was in college.
My father after the war worked for the forest service in that area also.
But then there were no "Selfies" like today.
You are correct that selfies likely exceed all other photos ever taken in the history of photos.
