Companies like us to get our bills online instead of in the mail. This saves them a lot of money. However, many of those same companies send me at least two pieces of mail every week advertising something. Hypocrisy? Yeah, I think so.
Saves them money to offset the cost of the ads.....

Ah, but the fun part is they also send you a reply-paid envelope with their latest garbage. Simply put the reply portion (left blank, or you can fill it out as M. Mouse @ Disneyland, if you feel the need to practice your calligraphy) into the reply-paid envelope and post it back to them. Eh Voila! You keep the USPS in gainful employment and the company paying it’s letter opening and scanning Agencies / Human Resources. Everyone’s a Winner… except the original mailer.
I liken this process to Brown Bitcoin Mining. You are enabling complex systems to do work that will end in sh*t.
😈
I see it as more of a convenience to me and couldn't care less about their savings. These days most of my bills (not all) populate directly into my online banking section. The bank/companies have specific agreements to send electronic bills to the banking institution so you have notifications on a banking app, due date, and most importantly the amount on the bill. If I need to view the bill their is a hyperlink in my banking app to view the bill directly if I have questions.
The other companies that do not have those agreements send the bill via email and may include one extra step to pay online.
*Disclaimer * This only applies if you want to conduct online banking, if that is not your preference or desire, then however you manage bills is perfectly fine as well.

Yes - lots of paper, and it all goes into my wood stove.
We have just switched over to all Paperless exclusively for the reason that the USPS in St. Louis has many rogue employees. At least once a week, we receive mail that does not belong to us, and others receive our mail. It is so bad that one neighbor is so fed up with USPS that the mail delivered at her home is simply tossed into the trash. But it is ramped all over the city. So, Paperless we are now. Is our city the only one with this problem?
I don’t think it’s hypocrisy. There’s more involved with processing mailed payments than the cost and timing of the paper and they still want to reach the folks who still like to get mail.

I get the wrong mail maybe twice a year - very small town.

No. I'm sticking with hypocrisy. No offense intended.
Years ago I dropped Cablevision on Long Island and switched to FIOS. Cablevision refused to lower their price or do anything to keep me as a customer. Since i made the switch, which was years ago, I get mailings almost every week to come back, offering special pricing and discounts. How does that make any sense?

We think they should offer discounts to existing customers who ask for them. They don’t. “Sense” has nothing to do with it.😂
