Most endoscopy labs will routinely provide you with a set of the still photos. Their computer program creates it automatically. If yours doesn't, you should request a copy. Videos are not routinely taken. Best of luck, Jerry.

One of the funniest descriptions of a colonoscopy I have ever read was written by the comic writer Dave Barry. It was several years ago; have not done an internet search to see if it is still retrievable.

In the UK the docs take the probe straight then turn a corner into the horizontal part of the colon. Apparently this procedure finds few extra problems (if there are any) but runs a high risk of a perforated colon, which can be a killer maneuver.

This is not true.
Throughout the entire world, the endoscopist performing colonoscopy inserts the scope into the rectum, maneuvers the scope through the turns in the sigmoid colon, goes up the descending colon, turns the corner into the "horizontal part of the colon" (transverse colon), turns yet another corner and advances down the ascending colon and into the cecum. Many will then attempt to turn yet one additional "corner" and pass the scope through the ileocecal valve and into order to inspect the terminal ileum (small intestine where it joins the colon).
A colonoscopy is not considered complete unless the cecum is reached.
The search for polyps, cancer and other pathology is primarily done as the scope is slowly withdrawn.

Colonoscopy is a piece of cake.... Nice warm blankets when you awake. Glad I had one 15 years ago... Colon Cancer and needed an operation. Had to have a colostomy done.... another big deal folks blow out of proportion... At the next colonoscopy the Doc asked if I wanted to watch as it was a " Top Down " procedure as I lay on my back and the Stoma faces upward... I declined and took a nap, dreaming of the warm blankets. There is NOTHING to fear with the procedure... Be happy to be alive as there are many worse off than having a little probing done !

But he keeps the probe on the left side the whole time, correct?

The colonoscopy is nothing. It's the prep work that draining.
