Irrational fears.
Isn't it strange that a lot of us have irrational fears of things? Clowns, mice, snakes, etc. For me, it's moths. I'm not sure why, butterflys don't bother me at all, there's just something about moths that I don't like. Maybe it's the way they seem to bounce around and always seem to hit me in the face? Or perhaps something happened to me as a child that I no longer remember? Anyway, I don't like them, but I still appreciate their beauty, so here's a couple of pic's I shot tonight, (before running away)!
Ray.
Nice, even though you had to overcome fear to get these.

Moth looks like it was designed by an aeronautical engineer. Don't be afraid, just keep the lights off!

Very nice capture Ray of a White Lined Sphinx moth. You can spot them
feeding on the nectar of flowers in the early morning or late evening.
A very common moth in the US.
Nicely done. I take it you root for Godzilla over Mothra.
Thanks for the comments all.

If moths are attracted to light why do they only come out at night?
Good morning "Kinda",
I have always loved butterflies and used to have an attitude / feelings similar to yours concerning moths. It took some time until (after some research / investigation) I became aware that they are really just a different type of butterfly with the only obvious difference being their antennae. Moth antennae are shaped like a type of feather - actually quite beautiful - and not like the small "club" shape of a butterfly. The one thing that really won me over is that moths simply cannot bite or sting - just like a butterfly - as they have no real mouth parts. Just that really cool roll-up "straw" that they use to sip nectar.
Take a closer look sometime - they really are unique / cute (?) fellow Earthlings.
All the very best,
Terry
I've never understood the fear of clowns until we started getting movies with scary clowns. I'm not afraid of them, but I know people who are. That type of thing can spread.
Beautiful shots.
