If, Rap is music, then falling off a building is transportation!!!
Rap is poetic cultural commentary. That's why I was disappointed. They buried the commentary in a muddy sound mix. It is always at least slightly musical, as it is spoken rhythmically to a beat. If they want to reach the broader audience through an event like this, it has to be intelligible. I know the Super Bowl is all about spectacle, but dang. Can't they just get the sound right?
Now, for music, give me rock or jazz or jazz-rock fusion. I watched Jeff Beck, Vinnie Colaiuta, Tal Wilkenfeld, and Jason Rebello perform "Live at Ronnie Scotts" for probably the 20th time this weekend. I cannot get that music out of my head. Beck had three of the best musicians he has ever played with on stage... and then his old friends Joss Stone, Imogen Heap, and Eric Clapton showed up for a cameo. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant can be glimpsed in the audience, among other rock greats. What a concert:

I'm with you on all your music... I've been listening to Bill Evans for the last few days, good music...

It was about as moronic as a musical performance can be.

Bill was one of the great jazz pianists. We lost him too early.
I was lucky to see Dave Brubeck play at my college in the 1970s, accompanied by his sons. It was a phenomenal concert and a LONG concert. I have photos somewhere... I haven't digitized the negatives just yet.
Imagine seeing a jazz medley at the Super Bowl halftime!
Yes, lost too soon...
Brubeck is great, that was lucky for you to get see him live...
I was at the last Miles Davis concert at NY SPAC prior to hi, passing away, very sad...

Why would anyone think you would like it. It was black, you are white. It was younger, you are not. It would never appeal to you.
No matter your age or race why would want to watch someone who has a racist past and condones killing police officers?

This 75 year old white guy loved everything about it. Go figure.
Yeah, Trader John is right. Good "Ol Snoop Dog. In his latest album he speaks about killing police directly.. In addition, These performers are kind of old themselves. Objectively speaking, I thought the show was crap but the Stadium audience seemed to like it and the media touts the show as the greatest thing since the creation of God's green earth.
Our family, is very, very mixed racially and has very diverse opinions when it comes to modern politics. So, family gatherings can get very interesting at times, but none of us would trade a thing and we love each other very much and we respect each other and we all have each others' backs when push comes to shove.
We had a big argument with some of the family (mostly the men whom are int their late 20's and early 30's. over rap after watching this half time show. These members really like rap. I can understand that. I have to wonder if they really understood the lyrics in a lot of it. I noticed that there is a lot of racism, hatred towards authority, and a lot of it is extremely demeaning towards women. So, what is so different than what we listened to when we were kids?

Although it offered a supposedly stellar lineup, I wasn't overly impressed by the half time "music." I can somewhat appreciate Rap and Hip Hop but the performances all seemed to consist of the usual dark narratives, offered with an uninteresting, pounding orchestral beat, "sung" by performers who expressed their emotion by grabbing their crotch every few seconds while surrounded by dancers twerking, grinding and making lewd contortions.
I was, however, impressed by the '60's Impala convertibles parked in the front.

I was told that the "grabbing" is for attaining those high pitches.
Not my thing. I changed the channel & luckily came back just as the 3rd was getting started.
