CCleaner is free. It can find all kinds of files (not just photos) that are duplicates in the sense that the folder is different but {the name, date, size, and contents defined as a checksum} are the same.
if even 1 bit in the data for 1 pixel is different between 2 files the checksum would be different.

Hello, however you do it be careful. I tried deleting some and I lost all of them. Maybe you are better doing them seperately.

I've used Duplicate Photo Cleaner for years. It has some very sophisticated file comparison tools but is simple to learn and use. Unfortunately it isn't free and is based on an annual subscription model like Lightroom and Photoshop. It will run on either Mac or Windows:

Well I am also concerned about finding a duplicate program for a mac however. Did not see many recommendations, would like to see more from others that have resolved this situation other then going one by one.

Try the plug-in VS-Duplicate-Image-Finder. It has a Mac version, but is not free. Very versatile.
