I guess the photographer was using a wide lens which can be tricky to use for portraits since only the center is free of distortion, take a look at the woman to the left edge, the face is visibly distorted.

Does look like it was wide angle lens. 50mm would be better and for portraits something like a 80-85mm may be best, not necessarily for a group picture unless you have the room to move farther back!

Also the tiger in the center appears to be a lot bigger than the others.

Altho I can see all the pointless nit picky issues Hogsters love to point out, there’s absolutely NOTHING wrong with ANY of those pix. Such Hogsters have no eye at all for photography, only a foolish hang up on tech issues.

Many of the best photos I’ve ever seen exhibit noise, distortion, and color shifts. I’m not overlooking your “issues” due to journalistic constraints. I am referring only to aesthetics.

A photo doesn’t need to be perfectly flawless to be really perfect.

No photo ever looks like real life.

Nope.
It's the 3 to 2-dimensional conversion in a photo that messes with out mind.

Thar is not a PORTRAIT of a formal group shot. It is a snapshot or a quick publicity photo. The expressions are "fun" and it simply simp to a group of folks with a very nice stuffed tiger. Perhaps they are members of the orchestra, guest players, supporters, whatever just having a good time. If it was shot backstage or in a crowded lobby, it is quite possible that it was made with a wide range of focal length- so what? Nobody is distorted beyond recognition and it again ain't a traditional portrait! It's a Facebook snapshot! It is not a salon print and it will never hang in the Louvre!

Thar is not a PORTRAIT of a formal group shot. It ... (show quote)

So it will never hang in the Louvre ... but it could nicely hang in Carnegie Hall, with no excuses or apologies.

Next time I go there, I'll check it out. At an average of $200 a ticket, it better be a good concert! Thet Isaak Stern Hall has great acoustics. I like it better than Lincoln Center!

Yes, that is it----extreme wide angle lens when, in fact it should be the long end of neutral focal length.----

Common folks, it's a snapshot. Looks like it was taken after the performance. The gentleman is probably the guest pianist.

Y'all are wasting time analyzing a snapshot. Everyon is smiling and happy in the shot and the cats a super-cute.

The Facebook page also shows the programme. My goodness, the photographer didn't use a polarizer and there is a reflection on the page.

Both images were probably made with a cellphone camera or a nice little point-and-shoot model!

A technically flawed photo with significant or interesting content is always superior to a technically perfect blah photo.....😊

The question in the thread was not whether the picture fulfilled its purpose-----but what was wrong with the photo---asked on a technical photo discussion site. So the appropriate answer is not about the people or the cute animals---but what might make the photo "more photographic."-------
